"Very few styles can capture the pure essence of tragedy the way doom metal does. It's generally something that melds so well in the modern world with the constant unfortunate news we read daily. As such, Marrowfields captures that dire sense of dread we are all facing masterfully on their new album Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the debut album from Marrowfields, taking strong hints from more traditional doom, focusing on clean singing as opposed to a harsh vocal style.

Over the span of 5 songs, you'll encounter a solid 50 minutes of heavy doom metal. The first thought that springs to mind is that Marrowfields are very similar to Pallbearer. The slower doom style with beautiful clean vocals. This is an album that maintains its ground, from beginning to end. The instrumentals are extremely catchy, and unlike a lot of Doom metal, isn't simply hit a note and let it drone on. Metamorphosis is full of well crafted, catchy riffs. Nothing over the top, nothing that takes away from the style, but something that helps the band stand out above others. The riffs alone help the album a lot, preventing the album from simply dragging on, they help the album progress with nice consistency.

The second track on the album, "Crow and Raven", is arguably my stand out track from Metamorphosis. In the words of Thanos, this track is "perfectly balanced, as all things should be." While doom metal doesn't get "fast" in the sense those of us used to black and death metal deem the norm, this song picks up above where most doom metal would dare to. Coupled with the consistency of the drum and bass work, and the appealing riffs, "Crow and Raven" if nothing else, is a song that will remain in my loop for quite a while.

Marrowfields nailed their tone on this first album. Metamorphosis is a stand out debut album, especially in a genre that can become monotonous incredibly quickly. Choosing to forge their own path, it's only a matter of time before Marrowfields reach that level of following that similar bands of the style have. While Metamorphosis releases tomorrow through Black Lion Records, you can hear the album first, right here. Check out what Marrowfields bring to the table below. If you enjoy, you can always pick up the album on Bandcamp as well, I'm sure the band would appreciate it a lot."
