Easy enough. Tell us what you feel is the best riff or riffs the genre has to offer.

Emperor-Ye Entrancempirium(every riff from this song is amazing)
Behemoth-Forgotten Empire of Dark witchcraft
Marduk-With Satan and Victorious weapons
Darkthrone-Skauld au Satans Sol

these are a few, check 'em out if you havent already\m/

especially that second riff from "the loss and curse of reverence". also, everything from the band impiety from singapore. they're as metal as it fucking gets.

dimmu's new album sucks ass.
but i agree with everything by emperor and pretty much anything by burzum, though poorly recorded.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jun 16,2004 7:15pm
I rather enjoyed death cult.

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem @ school at Jun 16,2004 7:18pm

Anaal Nathraakh - The Techno Goat
Mayhem - Funeral Fog
Marduk - Bleached Bones
Emperor - The source of Icon E

toggletoggle post by Aegathis  at Jun 16,2004 7:56pm
It depends on what style of black metal your refering to. If your talking about old school cheap production style , every riff sounds easy and basically the same(I still enjoy it though). I persoanlly think some of the best riffs are found on Anthems to Welkin, Nemisis Divina, and the last 3 Immortal albums ( Off the top of my head.)

despit the fact that they're not a black metal band, I go with

Arch Enemy - Behind the Smile

Darkthrone- Cromlech

Shagrath never sings, that is Simen doing the singing, and his voice is awesome. I like new Dimmu.

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Jun 17,2004 8:54pm
whos Simen!?

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jun 17,2004 8:55pm
Oh, sorry. ICS Vortex. His real name is Simen Hestaes.

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Jun 17,2004 8:58pm
OH NO!!!! you got me wrong now!!! hahaahhahahahaha i meant shagrath should stop throating (singing) ahahah sorry! i love Vortex's singing, i'm just sick of shagrath! sorry for the confussion!

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jun 17,2004 9:03pm
hahahaha, no, i knew what you meant the whole time, I just like doing things like that cause I have no life...

Anyway, I am intrigued! What don't you like about Shagrath's growls? Do you like his old ones?

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Jun 17,2004 9:10pm
i'm a huge HUGE fan of dimmu's older stuff all the way up to SBD, but after that i feel like Shagrath went more computer in the last two albums, it feels to me that he almost doesn't even make a huge effort in them, and for me, i'm a vocalist and i think if a vocalist uses a shit load of effects then it kind of takes away from the raw emotion of growls and screams
i have more but i can't think of some other examples right now....

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jun 17,2004 9:11pm
the only black metal song i like is amon amarth

True, but that is still him growling, he just puts effects on some songs to make it sound funky. But don't you like Abbath's participation on Death Cult?

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Jun 17,2004 11:45pm
haahahahha that's the only reason why i love that album!!!!! hahahahaaha oh abbath such a god

Yes yes, I do indeed appreciate his participation on that album. What songs does he lend his voice to? Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse and Blood Hunger Doctrine I know, but aren't there one or two others?

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Jun 23,2004 12:59am
nah he only does vocals for those two songs, which is a shame
i can't wait for his solo album, it's going to blow everyone away

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jun 23,2004 8:03am
whoaaa! He's doing a solo album? Nice, I've been longing for more Immortal material.
