Honestly, what do you want from Brady. First of all they took away his running game completely. You can't name a bigger Kevin Faulk fan than me, but why the hell would you feature back him, and put your smallest back up against the most physical front seven in football? Faulk had 14 carries and 6 receptions on the day, but hadn't had 20 touches in a single game all season. Why the hell, with Maroney finally coming around, Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor healthy, would you try to feature your 3rd down back? They bring in big ol Sammy Morris, and smashes out a 9 yard run and then 2 plays later he's back on the bench for the rest of the game. What the fuck?

Second, since when is Brady Michael Vick? Am I wrong or did they try to run a bootleg or some sort of goofy roll out on just about every possession. He's the slowest quarterback in the goddamn league, and a pocket passer get him in the fucking pocket. I can see the idea of trying to create more time against a heavy pass rush but you're up against a team that loves to blitz it's corners and OLB's, you don't put your lead footed quarterback out there on an island against a team throwing the kitchen sink at you.

This offense was proof positive that O'Brien is a quarterback coach and should fucking stay put there. The guy very clearly lacks the capacity to conceive an NFL offense. He needs to be hanging out with Jim Zorn gophering Gatorade to the 3rd string QB and leave the coordinating to the adults. How anybody can inherit an offense that features Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and a superior offensive line and still lay a fucking egg all season is so far beyond me that I need to bury it in a time capsule and hope future civilizations will somehow have figured it out by then.

And I've been defending the guy the best I can all season but Adalius Thomas sucks. Every time the Ravens broke a run off the edge on a key drive where was A.T. in the replay... on his fucking ass eating dirt. The guy is an absolute stiff. And what the hell, Derrick Burgess was FINALLY coming around and playing some great football and they try to re-install Thomas, who hasn't done a goddamn thing all season, in his place. The personnel switching on this team makes zero fucking sense sometimes.

Shaun Springs is a stiff too. Retire. Go drive your kids to school. Write a book. Rob a bank. I don't give a shit what, just get the fuck off the goddamn football field because you're killing me.

I really thought I was going to be heartbroken over this loss, but honestly I came to terms with it around mid-season somewhere. Just wasn't the Pats year, but I'm psyched for the draft, psyched to see who comes out of the NFC in the playoffs this year, and ready for training camp this summer.

you are completely right about everything, but Brady wasn't in the game yesterday either

Brady usually can feel back side pressure and step up in the pocket to avoid it, but he didn't move at all on the strip sack...threw to no one on the 1st INT...a lame duck (one of many) on the 2nd INT....and into triple coverage on the 3rd (even though I say that was a borderline personal foul: launching at a defenseless receiver)

the shame of it all too is that if it weren't for the refs blowing a call in the Pats favor (the muffed punt that was never recovered by anyone) they only would've mustered one good drive on that team...good not great defense with a secondary of subpar players except for their old, injured, but still capable leader (Ed Reed)

O'Brien lost me earlier in the season....but yesterday calling like 3 draws to Faulk ON CONSECUTIVE PLAYS...what the FUCK was he thinking?

Sucked to watch such an awful loss, but the Ravens are the one team left in the AFC right now who I don't hate, so go Baltimore.

Meh, all I'll say is this year's draft is going to be interesting.
Mike, Rusty! Break out the draft boards!

since you brought it up Dan, here's my favorite mock draft site: http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2010.php

dude makes picks logical to what the teams actually do (like the Raiders/Al Davis being completely illogical, he had Heyward-Bey going to them last year well before anyone else did)

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Jan 11,2010 5:08pm
here's his current Pats 1st round pick:
"New England Patriots: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
It's his contract year, and suddenly Ben Watson is playing well again? I'm not buying it, and neither should the Patriots. It's time to cut ties with Mr. Watson.

If Watson isn't brought back and the Patriots have the opportunity to draft Jermaine Gresham, I have to believe that they'll take it. Gresham, a first-round talent who could fall because of his knee injury, would be yet another dynamic weapon for Tom Brady to have at his disposal. If Wes Welker isn't ready by the start of the 2010 season, Brady will need someone talented to work with besides Randy Moss."

makes sense as a 3rd option on offense without getting a cocky WR that doesn't have the work ethic Belichick wants

I see them going LB or DE in the first round. You might see WR or RB in the second. Brandon Spikes (if he falls that far, probably not), Jerry Hughes, Everson Griffen, Von Miller, Ken Angerer, Cameron Heyword, Carlos Dunlap, Bruce Carter, Sergio Kindel, Greg Hardy, Navarro Bowman and Jason-Pierre Paul are dudes to watch as the draft gets closer. After the combine, we'll have a better look. But I'd be tempted to see the Pats grab C.J. Spiller if he fell far enough.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Jan 11,2010 10:03pm
Spiller won't fall...he's a game breaker...those guys typically go early

Dunlap's overrated and has had a DUI in the past year...no thanks

Spikes has a pretty big range of where he will go at the moment...I've seen anywhere from top 10 to mid 2nd round...no telling where he'll end up or if the Pats will even be interested

Griffen's better for a DE in the 4-3, and while I like Hardy, I think he is destined to be a DE in a 4-3 as well

I think you can get Angerer, Kindel, and Bowman in the 2nd

my money's on Miller or Hughes right now....but its WAY too early

They could also do some trading in the offseason for players or picks. I'd say they get ballsy and trade Nick Kazur. Vollmer pretty much stole his friggin job and there are teams out there dying for even decent O-linemen. That and I wonder if they honestly expect anything to finally come out of the Shawn Crabble project. I swear, the guy is gonna miss this season from getting AIDS while falling out of a plane or something.

Given the role tight ends have played in the Patriots offense in the last few years (block, and STFU) I don't see the Pats spending their first rounder on a TE short of being the next Tony Gonzalez. And the fact that he's coming off a major injury should be another big red flag. The last thing we need is another high draft pick sitting around on IR.

If the Pats pass on another Clay Matthews I'm going to lose my mind. Granted we got Pat Chung, Darius Butler, and Vollmer out of it. But trading up to get Ron Brace when there were good passing rushing DE's on the board still burns me up to this day. I've got to believe that the plan was to find some talent for the outside of our front 7 in this year's draft or free agency. Having great young DB's isn't going to mean shit if they can't get any help up front.

So no goddamn tight ends!!!!

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Jan 11,2010 10:33pm
I think with a new OC (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF JEEBUZ), and a physically gifted TE with hands would change the role of a TE in the offense....think about it...how long has it been since the Pats have had a TE they could rely on? Fauria maybe?

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Jan 11,2010 10:37pm
I'm with you on Matthews. I was so high on him last year and to see the mayhem he wreaks for the Packers kills me. Hell, they could have at least grabbed Malaluga (sp?) in the 2nd round. He had a pretty good rookie year with the Bengals. What the fuck have we gotten out of Brace or even Chung at this point?!

bennyhillifier

very fast, good play recognition, good pursuit, great motor

my concern is in most of this video, he's playing almost exclusively with hand down on the defensive left, meaning he's doing all this against right tackles...in a more complicated defense, he might not be as useful, and I have no idea if he's capable of covering anyone, which he would need to do with the Pats, or any other 3-4 team for that matter

bennyhillifier

from what I've seen of him, great breakaway speed, good body control, can break tackles (although that might be shitty college CBs who can't tackle), elusiveness, can kick/punt return

not opposed to this guy

EDIT: here's what WalterFootball says
"Arrelious Benn, Illinois
Height: 6-2. Weight: 214.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Projected Round (2010): 2.
1/3/10: Arrelious Benn has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Benn had a disastrous junior season mired by drops and poor effort. Still, it was a great move to get out of the Illinois sinking ship.

11/7/09: Needs to practice catching toilet paper in the super market; his hands suck.

10/10/09: Juice Williams' ineptness has debacled Arrelious Benn, who has only 10 catches in four games. Benn's role in Illinois' goofy offense will cost him on Draft Day."

so now I don't know if his hands really do suck or if he was just looking to get out of Illinois (also a red flag, means if he doesn't like his situation, he won't produce)
