Firehouse 13
Thursday, August 13, 2009
doors 7:30pm | show 8pm | $8

Anyone else going to this? Should be a good and interesting show. A little different than the norm I suppose!

(also Giant Squid is a bizarre band name heh)

I'd definitely go if I weren't working tonight...and I knew where the hell this Firehouse 13 was.

Giant Squid is fucking awesome.

Oh man, this show was incredible! Absolutely gorgeous music. Really cool stuff too.

from my twatter:

Bellows: crushing doomy flowing noisy atmospheric band. an old micced tuba as the bass & a large sax as the guitar. Incredibly original!

Grayceon: wow, incredible performance! Intricate & flowing yet heavy & stripped down. Cello, guitar & drums provide a beautiful & big sound

Bellows encore: They were asked to perform a song for the touring bands who arrived late & what a treat! They performed an incredibly boisterous, bombastic & really fun piece that got embedded in my head for at least an hour!

Giant Squid: Similar to Grayceon but with a fuller sound & slightly more rockin' attitude. Still intricate, beautiful, flowing, exquisitely composed songs. Soft & soothing parts that morphed into almost thrashy sections then to full bodied prog rock.

Loon: The night ends w/ simple & crushing doom metal w/ black metal & clean vocals. Large rumbling chords & sloth like pace. Excellent!

Overall: One of the most interesting & rewarding evenings of metal! Proof that metal can be beautiful & creative while still being heavy.
