toggletoggle post by mike_k at Jun 29,2008 1:05pm
I go tuna fishing a lot in the summer or for stripers and stuff, but I love reeling in a few bass or trout.

toggletoggle post by fleshfries nli at Jun 29,2008 1:08pm
Hmmm...is it weird that I noticed that kickass beard before the fish? haha

I used to go deep sea fishing with my aunt, then she passed and I haven't gone since :(

nice fuckin fish there.

went to stump pond out in coventry RI last week....tons of large mouth bass and northern pike....they were fucking hitting on anything.

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Jun 29,2008 5:00pm
Do I hear a road trip to this stump pond???

toggletoggle post by Whoremastery  at Jun 29,2008 5:05pm
i go almost daily..what are you using?

toggletoggle post by ........ at Jun 29,2008 5:16pm
at stump pond the bass were hitting on shiners and spinners. i usually bring 2 poles...one for live bait and one for lures. the large mouth were mostly going for the live bait.

the pike were hitting the spinners like crazy....almost every cast i was nailing one. i'd post some pics but i only have them on my phone. one of the pike took like 20 fuckin min. to reel in....thing was fuckin huge.

i highly recommend stump pond....it's off Rt. 117 in Coventry, RI.

oh yeah...there's an island in the middle of it too....so i brought the grate from my grill and some steaks....cooked those fuckers up on the island.

toggletoggle post by fishcakes at Jun 29,2008 6:04pm
I mostly just use rubber worms mostly.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2008 6:20pm
I used to love it but don't eat meat so no point. that is a huge bass though. I would have figured you only fished saltwater and figured these would be strippers.

toggletoggle post by christopher at Jun 29,2008 6:26pm
that is some quality looking H2O in that last pic

Strippers??
Thats a whole different scum pond you speak of Rev.
Nice bass dude.
Beard looks lonely tho. Needs a stash to keep her company.
Unless youre going for that whole Abe Lincoln/Amish style.
Then in that case...
Well Done.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2008 8:38pm
ha! stripers.
praise God.

I used to do CnR until I ended up having to rip a perch's gills out. now, I would get mad cause of the bugs.

I have a house in Wilmington, ADK right across from a sick area of the Ausable where the brownies rise. Great fly fishing.
But If I is in the south shore "nig riggin" im all about the worm with a weight and the top (texas rig) or spinners.

That's the same fish, right? I'm guessin 4.5 to 5lb? Nice. Biggest one I got is 6.3 last year on a slug-go. Also, in 03' I got a 43 inch stripper in Rockport. Er, make that striper.

toggletoggle post by corpus_colostomy at Jun 29,2008 9:37pm
all y'all is wrong.
its STRIPE-AHHHH.
and at that, if its over 28 inches it is then the oft coveted "KEEEEEEPAHHH."

toggletoggle post by Grizloch   at Jun 29,2008 10:26pm
I need to learn how to fly fish, but I guess my first priority should be purchasing a pole, I had a bunch when I was a kid but we threw them out after sitting in my parents cellar for five plus years turned them into a tangled rusted mess, borrowing one is getting old, any suggestions on what I should get?

toggletoggle post by corpus_colostomy at Jun 29,2008 10:36pm
fran betters gear. adk specialist. 'the ausable wolf.'

nice fish man...

havent freshwater fished in years.

we got the set up down here on the cape...my friend has a clamming vessel and we get free clams and troll behind it. weve been trying to beat his striper record for this year of 46"(fucking dogfish). shits crazy.

cant wait for tuna season, make some cake.

toggletoggle post by aril at Jun 30,2008 10:06am
whats the best freshwater place on the Southshore / Coast?
The lakes in Lakeville are huge and pristine and barely touched, but I think you need to live on the coast of them to fish. But, they may have changed that.

I'm going fishing in the Hockomock Swamp, never to return.

toggletoggle post by blightedjosh at Jun 30,2008 10:11am

Wow that's a nice LMB. What you catch it on? I'd be interest in the deatails (time of day, lure, etc etc) I've been digging the yamamotos rigged wacky style. I'm in the lakes and rivers all the time. Pack a cooler with some beer, sandwich, really can't beat it!

toggletoggle post by UplandMan at Jun 30,2008 3:47pm
i use to fish fresh water a lot but ever since i got a deutsch drahthaar dog about 4yrs ago I upland bird hunt. Keeps me in shape and I get to eat good after a hunt...

toggletoggle post by fishcakes at Jun 30,2008 7:14pm edited Jul 1,2008 12:14am

toggletoggle post by Mess at Jun 30,2008 7:37pm
i never catch anything on tackle, but i did catch the pikeral and the bass on a shiner "look a like" this year. it was fun. i have to catch me a saltwater fish now. i love catching stipers. if i'm realy lucky, i can land me a blue. those put up a good fight. and yea, i eat what i catch. not the fresh water fish though blarghhh.

toggletoggle post by UplandMan at Jul 1,2008 9:14am
what's wrong w/freshwater fish? I use to catch rainbow trout, rock bass, white catfish, yellow perch, carp, kokanee, lake trout, northern pike, eel, back in the day. loved it. ate them all but at that time I had a GF that was a pro chef so... that helped a lot. She also help me prepare pheasant, grouse and woodcock. yum yum! hahaha

Yamasenkos rule -- I use texas rig & whacky rig. That's a big 'ol hawg you have up top there. I went yesterday, got a couple but nothing that huge. I may head out big lake trolling later this week. The themocline should be setting up nice now -- set the riggers at 25 to 35 feet and you kill the salmon.

I have 2 British Yellow labs -- I waterfowl hunt and upland hunt with them. Currently have been training everyday -- they have a Working Certificate Intermediate test coming up later this month.

toggletoggle post by UplandMan at Jul 1,2008 4:53pm
My father use to own British labs (always black) and he did lots of waterfowl and upland but he's too old today and dogless. I technically could hunt my Drahthaar for waterfowl but its not my thing i guess. unfourtantely my drahthaar has tracked and killed 2 cats in fields and brought them back to me. Points rabbits all the time (annoying) and almost killed a huge racoon in my yard. This breed is a little hard to handle. I trained with him so much it was frustrating and maddening at times but now that he is trained and older its a joy. Enjoy your british labs! I always remembered how freakin awesome they were. Very smart dogs and they get along with everyone. sorry to change the subject...

Discussions of fishing should almost always lead to / involve a discussion of hunting. That's tough about the dog killing shit -- is he ever hard-mouthed with birds?

Right now I am working on baseball drill to teach casting and lining drills. Their hunt test coming up won't involve any blind retrieves, so I don't need to worry about that, but that baseball drill sucks for everyone involved -- the dogs often just don't want to pay attention. I am finally getting somewhere with it after 2 to 3 weeks of beating my head against a wall -- I have made it a point to keep them separated and in their kennels more often, so the most fun they will have is training. Seems to be working. Good luck with your pointer!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 1,2008 5:16pm
wow, last time I went sea fishing the limit on stripers was 21 or 22 imches.

I have a friend who has a hunting lab and I believe he followed Mike Lardy and Rick Stawski's programs to train.

Do you utilize an e-collar? I use a Tri-Tronics Pro 500 G2. I bought this back in 2005 when they first came out...incredible tool that keeps on working and I don't wanna hear people say "shocking a dog is cruel, blah blah blah" if you understand the tool and how it is used its the most humane, effective, tool you could ever use.

Anyway my dog was force broke so he is not hard mouth and understands that fetching is a command not a choice. Force training is a very grueling task and people who do not understand this type of training will say its abuse. But... by instinct the Drahthaar is able to track game and dispatch it (kill it) and bring it back to the hunter. Its a versatile breed but its not for everyone. A lot of people call them the "ugly dog"

My dad always told me that dog training is an art and science. Any time you start to lose your cool STOP and put the dog away and re-think and analyse what is going on specifically. And cool off and start again. Repitition and consistency is key. I belong to a club so I had a ton of help from others in training. Maybe you could join a club??? I never got into the dog games, it takes a lot of time for that stuff. So good luck in your testing!

again sorry to do a 360!
