tonight was the night of me making the gayest faces on the planet and aaron snapping every one of them.

yeah, and tester can eat shit.

toggletoggle post by JayIDN at Jan 2,2004 9:25am
I think I took the lead in gay faces that night. Anyway, I'm glad I got a do-over for my "last" show - we sucked in RI.

I found out my replacement guitarist was sick at about 8:00. Eric called me to ask if I could do the show. I got from New Bedford to Cambridge in about an hour - I did a bill all the way up 140.

grasshoppers: still the nicest, bestest place to eat. The most popular line there is "wow, my eyes were bigger than my stomach". Now, I have food for days. some of the bands hit this place at noon-ish. I guess the venue gives the bands food too.

in dire need: absolutely amazing sound for them. this totally made up for the rhode island show. Good for jay's last show to be a great sounding one. It was funny at the end to when sean (guitar) and aaron (bass) jumped down and danced around, leaving joe(singer) just shaking his head. Sorry to xericx (drummer) for not getting back there to snap shots of you. hopefully his ego's not bruised. It's funny seeing them on a stage. Aaron was backing all sorts of weird faces and sean spent most of his time up in the air.

a cold reality: they play a bunch of songs that I didn't recognize (I assume they are new) and a bunch of songs that I did (I assume older). They were minus both a dedicated singer with the guitarist (justin) and bass (neil) player (who still did backups with the dedicated singer) doing all the vocals. the vocals didn't sound that bad, but it was hard to hear them up close. I think they should have been raised up. I don't even think they could hear them in the monitors.

tester: you know I really don't like LOA, but these guys sounded nothing like that. it was fratty alt-rock. you could tell there were some pantera/awk influences, but basically they didn't fit the bill at all. they also played forever... their last 15 minutes was a montage of different covers from some xmas song to a minute of slayer to bon jovi living on a prayer. this sort of stuff goes over great playing for a bunch of white hats at a college bar... but not really in a room with hxc kids. the best thing was ex-red shift horizon getting up with them and the guitarist's chain guitar strap. I think a lot of bands who's straps break could use one of those.

feces pieces: ero l'unico là per loro che non parlavo italiano? per fortuna carina e stato la mia tradutrice. I listened to the cd a long long long time ago. Can't say I was the biggest fan of it, but they were ok live. I didn't really recognize anything. By this point in the night, I was coughing constantly and just wanted to leave. they had a constantly spewing fog-machine. I must say, their last song that I heard was the best by far. it was way more brutal. I'm not sure why they had 2 singer though, they both basically sounded the same. one of the singers should have poo'ed in the toilet.

bill's a slang from damn.. the 70's?
if you are doing over 100, you can say
"I was doing a buck twenty" or something like that.

O.K., how about this: I totally booked it to the show. I'm lucky the fuzz didn't pull me over.

the 70's? i had no clue...i feel so young..heh

english is the best language
a million was to say one thing.
a million was to say something and mean something completely different which involves your dick or masterbating.

i couldn't hear the vocals at all through the monitors, hope it sounded ok standing in the crowd though.

you seemed to pull through with it.
I think it really threw neil though.

toggletoggle post by FecesPieces at Jan 3,2004 10:31pm
The reason why Feces Pieces uses two lead singers? In our nearly ten-year history as a band, I don't recall anyone ever asking that question before. I'm not sure that I could even answer that question, but I will attempt to give a brief synopsis of the band's existence.

The earliest incarnation of Feces Pieces was a two-piece Speed-Death-Thrash-Hardcore-Metal-Noise-Grind project started in September 1994 by myself and drummer Jeff DeBiase. I was playing lead guitar back in those days, and I switched over to the Bass when the remaining "Pieces" fell into place to complete the puzzle.

The band was officially founded on Wednesday, November 23rd, 1994 as a sextet, with a second guitarist (Tony Monaco, from the rock band Waltham!!!); but that formation only lasted for exactly one show, so it was never really considered the "original lineup." The two singers, Christian DiMeo and Tom Piotrowski, were very close friends throughout high school; so when Christian decided that he wanted to put down his bass guitar and pick up a microphone, Tom wanted to join in on the action. It seemed a bit much to have 3 guitarists back then, so I volunteered to fill the vacant bass guitar slot. Two lead vocalists, however, seemed like an original idea for a Metal band (This was 1994, mind you; before the whole Rap-Core explosion). So we gave it a shot, and it seemed to work very well for us. Christian concentrated mainly on a Death Metal vocal style, while Tom focused primarily on Hardcore.

This lineup lasted for four years, until Christian left the band for various reasons (Ear & Throat problems, and Grad School) in August 1998. Feces Pieces carried on as a quartet for almost three more years, until finally guitarist Steve Farmer decided to pursue other musical interests (Bassist for The Medea Connection). Tom joined the ranks of single-parenthood, and eventually went back to school for Music Production. Drummer Jeff DeBiase became an apprentice Mortician, and then gave it up to pursue an acting career, meanwhile returning to the drum throne for the 3-piece jam band, 5 Lb. Brown.

As for myself, I've spent the last 3 years of my life wondering where it all went wrong. My best friend passed away on April 4th, 2001; at which point I was too severely depressed to cope with reality any longer. It has been a long, hard road toward recovery; and if not for the individual support from my little brother John (Redshift Horizon) and the former members of Feces Pieces, I never would have lasted this long or made it this far. True friendship surpasses all difficulites, hardships, tragedies, random acts of God, etc...

And so here we are today, the original lineup of Feces Pieces... Reunited and Revitalized. Same Five Guys... Same Bad Taste.

Seriously though, I want to thank Jeff, Chris, Steve and Tom for re-igniting the fire that once again burns within my heart. And to my "Little Bro" John... Thanks for everything, Bro. You're the best.

Thanks to all who came to the Feces Pieces Reunion Show at the Middle East Upstairs on New Year's Day. It was the most fun I've had in aeons. I'm looking forward to playing out again very soon. See you next time!!!

Best Wishes,

Paul J. Caputo
