Just got back from Kansas City -- went out to hang with Downsy for a couple of days. Checked out Disinterment practice and heard some rough cuts from their new release. The new shit is fucking sick! Also jammed with Chris from Gornography (sp?), another sick gore band out there. These guys just cruise through gravity blasts like they're nothing.

Other highlights: drank waaaaay too much Friday night and purchased a new axe -- ESP LTD neck-thru with EMG actives, used in perfect condition for $400 with hardcase!

chris needs to get his ass over here with disinterment. I want a night with them, L@Z and HCN at the DBH.

What the hell is a gravity blast?

He's going to be here (not with the band) in a few weeks. Yeah, a show would be sick, but I don't know if the other guys in his band have ever left the midwest!

It's this ridiculously fast blast beat where you hold the stock sideways in your hand and rock the fat part of the stick over the rim and the tip hits the head of the snare as usual. So, basically you are getting 2 hits per stroke (I said stroke). If you listen to parts in Devourment and others where the snare hits sound inhumanly fast, that's how they do it. I'm a guitar player, so this stuff is all beyond me.

gravity blast = a term everyone loves to use these days. it's the new "brutal" or "sick", but the difference is it isn't a general adjective used to describe the music, but rather a specific term for one handed drumming. i didn't hear the term at all until a few months ago, now i can't go a day without hearing it.
