I was really bent on just upgrading to a new Les Paul. The more I've thought about it and heard some iffy responses to this from people who get a really nice sound, the more I am open to suggestion.

I don't know, what does everyone recommend for a kid with a dual rectifier (if that isn't your thing, it's just what I got ) who doesn't like floyd rose?

feel free to turn this thread into nerdy guitar talk that has nothing to do with recommending me anything, if I don't get suggestions the least I could cause is guitar shop talk.

There are people on the forum with more guitars than me and there are better players, but I have similar amp tastes as you and I also hate floating tremolo systems. I've built two guitars, ones still in the works. Btoh of with have tune-o-matis bridge pieces with string-through body flares... So natrually I would suggest somthing with that bridge type.

as far as pickups go, most would suggest EMG 81 or 85 pickups. I wouldn't. Active guitar pickups actually lose harmonic range contrary to popular belief. So for pickups I would suggest dimarziop X@N or Seymour duncan pickups. (EMGs are by no means bad pickups and they will make your recto scream but there are better pickups out there)

Les pauls have steep neck angle and steep angle on the headstock tilt because of the type of bridge you use, so for feel preferences I would suggest something with similar bridge and angle. Your probably more into traditional shapes seeing as you use a lespaul and you probably like wider necks. Since the lespaul body is massive, theres alot of resonation throughout the body so you should probably shoot for a neckthrough or set neck to make up for the warmth your used to getting out of the lespaul...

So I'm going to suggest a Schecter C1, an ESP MH model, or an archtop jackson dinky like the SLSMG or DKMGT

after a ton of thinking about whether or not I can get over my dislike of the floyd and actually running into an s-series, I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna put the woodblock in the back of the trem system and get this bad boy

but yeah, no les paul for me...officially shall become the backup

go for an ESP. way better bang for the buck guitars. dont buy the schecter. cus youll end up replacing one part or the other (cus schecter likes to put really quality hardware with some lesser quality ie. tonepros bridge but no duncans or locking tuners), and dont get the ibanez because you WILL replace the pickups (ibanez has some of the most microphonic pickups to offer). ESP all the way.

every guitar I've ever owned I've replaced the pickups...so that doesn't bother me so much.

I've played many an ESP in my days, and I guess I just don't really get that much of a kick out of EMG's...so I'd be replacing pickups there too.

I'll second the ESP LTD MH400NT motion.
It doesn't look like that in person, I suggest finding a plce that has one and checking it out, they look much better in reality.

True, on the ESP you may want to replace the pickups... but look at it this way, you can sell or trade in the EMGs for near half of what your new pickups will cost.

Also, on the ESP, you'll only be replacing the pickups... on the ibanez you'll replace the tuners, the nut, the pickups, the input, and you'll wish you could replace the tremolo but you won't be able to. pathetic metal casting.

I am now heavily considering the ESP now...anyone know where the hell I can play one before I go into this...

one of the only dealers in the area is Matt's Music. (mattsmusic.com) they have a shop in weymouth with a bunch of ESP shit you can check out.

Drumcityguitar land has an awsome inventory but thier return polacy is only like a 4 day window.

ok, so I ordered the ESP MH400NT from Drumcityguitarland after all...besides having to wait until the end of June for stock this seems like an amazing deal...seems like the price was about half what I expected and they hook you up with so much stuff...
