From the Wiki page:

At The Edge Of Time is the upcoming ninth studio album by the German power metal band Blind Guardian, due to be released on July 30, 2010.

Sacred Worlds is an edited version of Sacred with new orchestral intro and outro.

Tanelorn is an old style song which seems to be taken from Somewhere
Far Beyond, very fast rhythm thrashy guitar and raspy voice.

Road of No Release is introduced by piano and clean voice, the song grows until the very melodic chorus with huge choirs

Ride into Obsession has very fast rhythms and a powerful chorus

Curse My Name is the first ballad of the album, with a medieval mood and several instruments like flutes

Valkyries is one of the less immediate songs of Blind Guardian with many time changes more akin to prog rock

Control the Divine has rich dynamics like many songs of A Night at The Opera

War of Thrones is the second ballad on the album with a happy refrain and pretty sad verses

A Voice in The Dark is, like Tanelorn, a return to band's earlier style, with very fast and heavy guitar and a melodic chorus, making this the obvious choice for the single

Wheel of Time starts with an orchestral, oriental mood. It is reminiscent of "And Then There Was Silence", with many time changes and two different choruses sung together towards the end of the song.

I did not like the newer stuff I heard fromthe latest albums but will listen tonight. I really liked their early to mid catalogue. then I heard they had Christian lyrics in the new stuff. Confirm/deny?
Can't like a band of the music is bland compared to old material and the lyrics are false.

I didn't hear anything about the christian themed lyrics. That would suck. Stick to the D&D/Tolkien themes plz. I like my power metal to be ultra-nerdy.

Somewhere Far Beyond is one of the greatest albums ever.

backed. this is the only band in this style i care about. i love SFB.
the first song was decent until the chorus came. the vocals kill the rest of the mix. it's always been like that with this band, sometimes all the vocals are so overwhelming.

you can thank his obsession with QUEEN for that.

sounds awesome so far, i loved "a twist in the myth" and this doesn't sound too far off from that, it's blind guardian.

After looking into it, this is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_mainstream_metal
what wiki says:
Blind Guardian's vocalist Hansi Kürsch, who has said in an interview that he's a faithful but very critical Christian,[5] has incorporated Christian themes on songs such as "Precious Jerusalem", "Another Holy War" and "Sadly Sings Destiny."

In b4 MK gets mad.

They've always had christian themed lyrics

The Martyr
Banished from Sanctuary
Another Holy War
Precious Jerusalem
Sadly Sings Destiny

Those all have christian themes, i'm sure there are more though. Just think of it like you would any other mythology.

I'm sorry, one of the main reasons I liked thi band was because of the Tolkein theme. Get that Christian shit out of the music and leave it at home. I do not like when METAL bands incorporate Abrahamic religions into their music. Could care less about other types of music, as it is not uncommon. Metal is metal, get that xstian shit out of it. Blah blah blah I know it's about the music blah blah.

toggletoggle post by hauptpflucker   at Jun 28,2010 11:49am edited Jun 28,2010 11:49am
Satan is all over metal and that's based on Abrahamic tradition... I mean yes the idea is the rejection of christianity/god... but the theme still relies heavily on those traditions... My point is that is someone really really wants to play metal and sing about jesus then who cares.

In a related theme... Why aren't there more bad ass Italian metal bands? And why are there so many catholics in Italy? The Italians arguably killed Jesus... That's the most metal thing ever...

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 28,2010 11:59am
Indeed, however extreme metal was genuinely represeted by anti-christian themes for the most part. You want me to move to Louisville and sing about Christian opposition in my bluegrass band? (hankIII aside). It just wouldn't work that well.
metal, as a subculture rooted in opposition of society, religion, and anything else, should not have any mainstream religions associated with it, regardless of Satan having roots to abrahamic reliogions. In reality, it came from Set in Egypt an th basics of good vs evil came from Zoroastrianism in modern day Iran. So it's beyond that, but evolved into what what we know of it today. Why are devils represented as hooved goats? Look no further than Pan in Greek mythology. In essence Satan is a culmination of ancient beliefs; Christianity adopted it and rode with it.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Jun 28,2010 11:59am
Aril, why would that make me mad? My views on religion are almost in alliance with yours. I hate religion. I believe in God and call myself a Christian but a religious person? No. I am not in alliance with any industrialized and institutionalized religion of any flavor.

As far as Christianity in metal is concerned, I don't care. Everyone can sing about Satan too so if a band wants their message to incorporate their feelings on faith and God, who cares? It's not physically hurting you, only your pride maybe.

Touche... I see you are wise in the ways of ancient spirituality! That's cool since I don't think that's the norm in metal. It has been argued that Christianity's dualist nature is a direct descendant of zoroastrian ideology being studied by Jewish scholars like the much fabled Jesus. Christianity is certainly an evolution of the near east/mid east theologies which preexisted it. Regardless I do concur that metal about mainstream religion is kind of silly, but I don't tend to find much enjoyment in spiritual music save for some of the haunting gospel roots of blues and jazz, and some of the opulent creations of Baroque and Classical composers. It's just a topic that doesn't generally click with my own interests, but I could still care less about others writing about such themes, I'm just not likely to listen, which I think may be your point anyway...

Christian lyrics or not, Another Holy War is fucking badass.

to take this metaphor even further:
black coffee is metal. cream is religion. you pour just a drop of cream in the coffee and the whole thing changes. sugar can represent drugs and alcohol, because when you add sugar to your coffee, the whole thing gets oh so sweeter. remember this next time you guys pour your Christian cream into your coffee. In short, only black coffee/metal is real.

I would rather have a full fledged conversation about this with you so that you have a better understanding where I'm coming from and maybe alleviate some of the stereotypes you have in your mind.

Sounds like we agree then. Nothing will stop me from listening to something, but certain qualities stop me from really liking something.

really no need to man. whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. what one believes has nothing with what I believe. i have friends who are religious but I don't kill them over it or let it get to us. We joke around about it but everyone is entitled to their believes. I just read too much and like connecting the dots though a historical standpoint.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Jun 28,2010 12:39pm
I guess what I'm saying is, I don't like being pigeon holed just because of what I've accepted. I listen to the same metal bands most of you do because I love the music. I really don't concern myself with the aesthetics of it. Obviously, what I believe in isn't a widely acceptable thing in these parts and it's something I already know would happen but at the same time, I'm a man and I don't like people saying I'm not a man or stereotyping me. That just pisses me off as a person.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 28,2010 12:44pm
As long as you don't force your beliefs on anyone I don't see what the problem is.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 28,2010 12:45pm

LOVING THIS

probably gonna follow them on tour for a couple dates around the north east this time.

this band can do no wrong in my eyes.

except that barbara ann cover. that was ugly. they get one i guess...

the christian content was just another form of mythology as was said above. mostly on night at the opera. its not preachy at all and a lot of that was more biblical stories than pro christian stuff. "and then there was silence" is based on the illiad.

I agree with eric and they are always going to be one of my favorites. When A night at the opera came out it took me a while to get into it because the cd was so crazy over the top with production and orchestration, long arrangements. Eventually I got over it and loved it. The latest cd for me I enjoyed but took a bit of a downhill slide. I'd give it about a 5 or 6 compared to Nightfall/Imaginations/Somewhere which are all 10's.

at home now.. just listened. way better than I expected. much better than the other newer stuff I've heard. looking forward to it. ridiculous guitar work as always, same with the vocals.
i'm somewhat with ark though.. some of the chorus parts seem a little overbearing with the vocals, but it's hard to tell with the lo quality of the samples. i'd prefer the guitars a little higher but this does sound ridiculous regardless
