PSYCHED. volume 1 was so fucking killer and was really my starting point for like half the bands on it |
I like the fact that these comps mix household names with bands I've never heard of before. Gives some awesome bands a chance to get out into the light. |
this is going to be awesome |
some good stuff a lot of meh though |

some good stuff a lot of meh though |
yea not as strong as the last one...but some great bands none the less |
Well, think about it for a minute. Looking at the list of the first comp, how many of those bands did you know? I know I hadn't heard all of them and some of them fucking kicked ass. Not to mention there are bands on the first one I couldn't possibly care less about. If anything, I'd say this comp is better. I mean come on, Lack of Interest, Hummingbird of Death, Extortion, Despise You, Triac, Population Reduction, Superbad, and those are just the bigger names. Some of these names I've never heard could kick ass too. |

I thought all the bands on the first comp were pretty much well knowns. This one seems to have way more bands, half of them being big shits. |
I think the only band on the first comp I'd never heard of was Wasteoid, but there were also a fair amount of bands I'd previously known only by name. When all was said and done on that comp, I didn't like five of the bands. Liking 9 out of 14 bands, not a bad ratio at all. This comp has 19 bands on it. I already know I like 10 of the bands on it and of the others, there's only one band I can think of that I don't like, the rest I don't know. Even if less than half of those bands are something I like, that's still pretty much the same ratio as the last one. So I think the quality here is just as consistent.
One thing really worth noting is that most comps have throwaway material on them. The first TCKF didn't have that kind of stuff from anybody, and even in some cases I thought it was some of the best stuff the bands released. That'll also be a pretty crucial factor in what I think of this, so I'm not ready to say that it sucks or that it'll be great yet, what I'll say is just that I can't wait to hear it. |
woah, just noticed Superbad. Awesome band. Saw them in Portland last year. |
That's pretty awesome actually, I'd love to see Superbad. |
Big commercial labels really hate fascists.
Interesting. |

only bands I'm kinda siked for, a lot of fluff going on here |
I read a review of it from someone who already has it:
"Got it today.
Owen Hart, Marion Barry, and Septic Surge suck IMO.
Pop Redux and Drugs of Faith contributions were personal let-downs after being so stoked for both. Pop Redux tracks utilize the lower vocals almost entirely, to my dismay. DoF probably just cause one song out of their two was re-recorded from their s/t EP.
Despise You and Social Infestation contributions are pointless, especially DY seeing as both songs will appear on their split with ANb.
Really dug LoI, HoD, Crom, Apt. 213, Extortion, Voetsek, Superbad and Strong Intention though.
Not as good as the first one." |
i might have known more bands of the first one... the only one i'm familiar with here is apartment 213. they did that "domestic powerviolence" split with agoraphobic nosebleed. weird shit. cool though |
Really? You've never heard of ANY of these other bands?
I'm glad I'm not you. |
I'm guessing Population Reduction is the best track on there. that band's CD is awesome. |
I happen to think Hummingbird of Death is one of, if not the raddest band around today, so I'm guessing their tracks smoke everyone else's personally. |
I know this will make me sound like a poser pussy bitch....but Hummingbird of Death's songs are generally TOO short......I guess xBRAINIAx is where I'll draw the line for really short songs
Btw how are xBRAINIAx not on this? |
If I slip this comp under the doors of the Democracy Center... will I find a bunch of dead bodies the next day?? |
Stop oppressing women, you hatemonger. |
You emissary of tenderness. |
listening to this for the first time right now
29 tracks in, and so far, the worst band is Marion Barry |
Marion Barry was fucking awful. Every stereotype for a powerviolence band was there: gangster movie samples, stupid song titles, really bad attempt to rip off Spazz's vocals, etc. Just garbage.
I listened to it a couple times since I got it and the only bands on the comp that really blew me away with their tracks are HOD, Idiots Parade, and Superbad. The difference with the last comp is that a lot of the bands seemed to be at the top of their game. That's not really the case from here. Yes I enjoy listening to the songs from bands such as Triac, Extortion, Lack of Interest, etc. that I already thought were great before this comp, but it's not their best material.
I'll agree with the review I posted and say not as good as the first one. |
Crom's contribution was disappointing
Septic Surge is meh
but besides the aforementioned Marion Barry, shit is pretty awesome so far...especially Lack of Interest, Apt 213, Owen Hart, and Drugs of Faith |
Pop Redux is solid, but seems pretty out of place on this comp |
I could tell just by hearing the name Septic Surge that they would be bad. Combining the names of two already established bands... hoo boy.
I actually liked the Crom track myself. Lack of Interest and Drugs of Faith I can agree with, and I thought Pop Redux was also cool. I can't really get into Apartment 213.
You know the Lemmy quote "When the punks learn to play their instruments, they will play metal"? After hearing Owen Hart, I'm convinced that when the powerviolence kids learn to play their instruments, they will play metalcore. |
I'm on Triac now...while they're good, I can't get into them for some reason
Despise You's two songs seemed just blah, which is disappointing |
Despise You pretty much shat out a contribution and I don't think their stuff now seems to have the same anger as West Side Horizon either. Their vocalist used to sound like he was practically dying from screaming so hard.
I like Triac's self-titled 7" better, the tracks on this comp the vocals are almost inaudible. |
Idiots Parade's songs are pretty awesome...do they have anything out?
class is about to start....will finish later |
A long time ago in some last.fm group, a dude uploaded a .rar file with a bunch of Czech bands on it and that was how I got familiar with Idiots Parade, so they have other stuff out. I just don't know where to find it. |
caught a little bit more of this while on break too
Extortion was great, and Three Faces of Eve was surprisingly good |
