Legendary Swedish death metal horde HYPOCRISY have enlisted the help of CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/frontman Alexi Laiho for their upcoming North American tour. Alexi has agreed to temporarily fill the currently vacant guitarist spot on their tour alongside ENSIFERUM, HYPOCRISY, EX DEO, BLACKGUARD, SWASHBUCKLE. HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Tägtgren commented:

“We’re very happy to bring Alexi along on this tour and that he’s helping us out with filling the 2nd guitarist position. Funny, the first CHILDREN OF BODOM show was a support gig for HYPOCRISY on the Nuclear Blast festival in ‘98. Since then me and Alexi have become very good friends. I’ve helped him with producing and he´s helped me by contributing a guitar solo on one of my records with my other band PAIN. There will be no shortage of alcohol on this tour that’s for sure.”

Isn't dude like 5'3" or something? He's like a miniature collectible Finn from the Franklin Mint. I think you're probably ahead on the odds.

HYPOCRISY has officially canceled their North American tour.

The legendary Swedish death metallers, HYPOCRISY, have issued the following statement in regards to their tour with ENSIFERUM and their current troubles with US immigration:

“We regretfully have to officially announce the cancelation of our tour in North America. We’ve tried everything so far and it seems like the process will take longer than expected for one of the members in the band. We will try to come back as soon as possible, as we want to show our US fans that we care for them and we are ready to play the new songs live!”

Previously HYPOCRISY had been in holding mode, fully expecting to join the tour that was already in progress at a later date. In an earlier statement the band explained their situation:

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are forced to stay home until U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services process and authorize our working visas. This is the first time the band has faced a situation like this and it’s extremely frustrating, as well as depressing, since the last thing we want to do is disappoint our loyal fans who have waited years to see us live in the US. We filed for our visas with plenty of time, but as some probably don’t know, the US government has changed its rules when it comes to visas issued to artists so it’s become tougher. Even if we have already toured the US numerous times.”

BTW: I should have re-read that hypocrisy wasnt playing. I figured that the alexi thing fixed the issue with visas, but I guess i was reading backwards in time again.

under lying truth just finished. i missed most of their set.
swashbuckle: 7:15
blackguard: 8
ex deo: 8:55
ensiferum: 10-11:40
is that a typo? I'm hoping the pit is thin enoughh for me to get through around 10:20 to retrive my other flash...

the swashbuckle set was weird cause they had a new drummer. it was madea little less weird cause they came out to "im on a boat" and im wearing my "im on a boat" shirt. i did not plan that.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 4,2009 8:44pm
blackguard had an amazing response from the crowd. i also was thinking it would be great to see them up stairs cause i could finally get shots of their drummer. I couldnt remember what was different about their drummer that would make me want to shoot, but then when they set up, i realized; female drummer. that is a rarity. at the end of their set, 2 guys from swashbuckle came out and hosed the crowd down with some suds. i guess the next round was litterally on everyone.

ex deo was pretty much the coolest thing I've seen in a looong time. roman metal. it doesnt get much better than that imho. the costumes, the stances, the rhetoric, everything was perfect. plus, between the songs, they had clips of historical things. excellent.

I forgot how much fun Ensiferum is live!
It's a shame the sound was so bad, it sounded like tin cans underwater.
Wish they'd have turned up the guitars.

I personally was unimpressed with all the opening bands, but that's just me.

I've never seen so many people that missed the "don't wear the band you're seeing's shirt" memo, but I can only assume it's because folk metal is so.....accessible?

I was glad they ended up playing both Iron and Battle Song for encores.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 5,2009 3:22pm
shirt? i have never seen a band with that much schwag... even the member of ensefirum were wearing their own gig.

toggletoggle post by WarriorOfMetal   at Dec 5,2009 11:06pm
Yeah, the sound was pretty crappy, but Ensiferum kicked ass.

BTW, did anyone else find it funny that Ex Deo's intro music was from the movie 300, which is about Spartans (who were Greek) and not Romans?

toggletoggle post by Paulina at Dec 6,2009 11:37am
My friends were amused by the non-original music, but they said it was from Gladiator.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 6,2009 11:58am
i like gladiator films...

Nope, definitely 300. Maybe they thought the music from Gladiator sounded too much like Pirates of the Caribbean, and that people would be confused...the Gladiator and PotC scores have very similar themes and were composed by the same person (Hans Zimmer).
