i'd buy a new one but dont wanna lose the memory and sending to microsoft sounds like it will take forever.

stop playing xbox and play pc games instead.
sincerely,
a bitter PC gamer

I sent mine to microsoft and got it back in 2 weeks.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Jun 2,2009 11:29am
don't they automatically replace it for free if it has a red ring if you send it to Microsoft?

did it come back with all the memory?

was it free

I think they extended the warranty for everyone when this happens.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 2,2009 11:39am
you don't send your hard drive

I didn't have anything downloaded, so I don't actually know if that's downloaded to your drive or to the internal drive.

it was free. But that depends on your manufactured date.

I heard there's a trick you can do to fix it involving wrapping the xbox in a blanket while letting it heat up. sounds weird but seriously, it worked for a friend of mine.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jun 2,2009 12:43pm
^ this does work. my roommate's Xbox got the red ring of death, we didn't touch it for a month, tried it and it worked and hasn't given us any trouble since. i have no idea why, we didn't do anything to it, but it works just fine now and has for many months.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 2,2009 12:45pm
I did that trick. Only fixed it for like 30 minutes.

Most people who have this problem would be protected under the "whoops we fucked up" warranty. When you go to the "repair" section of that website, just make sure to put in the Red Ring of Light as a problem and you'll probably have it all set for free.

Luckily this hasn't happened to me. I don't play my 360 as much as my PS2/PS1, but I would be pissed if this shit comes wrapping on my door.

im gonna try the towel thing but will prob end up sending it to microsoft

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Jun 2,2009 1:37pm
the way it lights up is an indicator of how serious the problem is. If it's all four lights in the ring lit up, you're pretty much fucked and have to send it out. There are combinations of three lights lighting up that are possibly fixable without sending it away. I think.

dude.... you take the hard drive off and send the main console... all of your memory stays with you. it was free and when it happened to my brothers, they just sent him a completely new one. when it comes back you just attach your hard drive to the new one and its like nothing ever happened.

toggletoggle post by Doomkid   at Jun 2,2009 6:42pm
If you can try and convince them to send a new one and not a refurb. That shit will redring again in a week.

toggletoggle post by zyklon at Jun 2,2009 6:52pm
Get a PS3, Xbox sucks

toggletoggle post by Doomkid   at Jun 2,2009 7:01pm
Keep your xbox, there's nothing to do on a PS3.

toggletoggle post by supasta at Jun 2,2009 7:15pm
It's happened twice to me. The first time was free, the second time I paid, I think it was like $75. I hear if you put the console on it's side, it makes the red circle of death appear more often. Fuckin puta's

toggletoggle post by GUY at Jun 17,2009 4:04pm
getting my box back tomorrow, cant wait to play the COD5 map pack. it only took about 10 days. goddamn i missed it so much

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Jun 17,2009 4:19pm
awesome. told you they'd be quick.

I cry for you at night. Gorefest shall live on in our hearts.

From what I hear the red ring of death usually comes from over playing and the dvd rom basically gets shot. Installing games to your hard drive will expand the life of the 360, makes games load faster, and runs waaaaay quieter.
