it's smaller than pluto. according to dictionary.com a planet is A nonluminous celestial body larger than an asteroid or comet, illuminated by light from a star, such as the sun, around which it revolves.

since this planet is so far away from our sun that it looks like any other star in the universe, what makes this one qualify as a planet?

kalopia, there actually is no real scientific definition of the word planet.
the majorly accept definition includes that the object is big enough to be effected by it's own gravity.
hence all planets being round.

Sedna is actually considerd a plantiod, Pluto is also considered a planetiod and sedna is part of a hypathetical thing called an ort cloud that is a loose orbit around our sun.
