Thank the lord I've finally been able to kick my shitty eating habits and gotten my lazy ass back to the gym. Sure, most of this was water weight but goddamn it feels good to progress away from being a fat shit once again, and hopefully for good.

Here are the first steps I took, and this is just what works for me personally:

-Quit all fast food, including Taco Bell. It will be missed, but I've eaten more than enough for a life time. Maybe one day I'll reacquaint myself with it but on a moderate basis.

-Stopped eating fried food, candy, snack foods and large portions.

-Replaced soda with water, sports drinks (mainly low sugar, since corn syrup is fucking horrible for you), fruit juice and the occasional diet soda.

-Started jogging 2 miles in the morning before work

-After work I do a 20 minute warm up on the ellipticals at the gym, then do about an hour with weights for whatever the focus is that day, then 40 minutes of cardio on whatever machine I feel like doing.

-Sleeping 7-9 hours a night helps a lot too.

This is no "diet" that I'm doing, this is what people should do (for the most part) every day of their lives. Fuck crash dieting or trends; they never work forever and always tend to cause detriment to some part of your body, mind or emotions.

As soon as I reach my goal of being 185 with a decent amount of toned muscle mass, I'll probably start dabbling in junk food again, just as long as I stay on top of regular exercise. If I don't keep this up, I'll have a bad back, worse knees, manboobs forever, no energy, no endurance, no libido and die young and disgusting in due time. Fuck that.

Oh, and pay attention to the food pyramid goddammit. It was made for a reason. The more fruit and vegetables the better. They're good "physics" as they say...in other words, they help you poop as much as you should. Taking a giant, painless dump every morning is heavenly.

I've been doing a calorie counting diet. Which just means I monitor how much I'm eating and count the calories, making sure to keep it about 600 - 1000 calories less than my recommended daily caloric intake. I also drink a ton of water and in a few days, once I move into school, I'll be going to the gym regularly.

Be careful with that Brian; just because you're taking in less calories doesn't mean you'll be healthier. That's one of the biggest reasons Atkins and all those bullshit diets are terrible for you. You lose weight rapidly, but it's mainly because your body is substituting proteins for the missing carbohydrates. Since carbs are meant to provide energy and protein is meant to maintain and build muscle, the proteins try to give you energy by default. Since muscle is 3 times as dense as fat, you are losing muscle weight, clearly 3x faster than you would regular fat. The only circumstances a diet like this should be used is if you need a triple bypass.

Rev, keep in mind 185 is my goal WITH muscle. And I want to be muscle man 6000.

Well I take vitamins and supplements so I do make up for anything I don't eat. And it's not like I'm drastically under-eating. I plan on upping my caloric intake but still keeping it less than the recommended level when I start going to the gym a ton very soon.

Mark, try doing intervals when you jog. Jog for 60 seconds, sprint for 30. Use landmarks to help you figure it out. It helps keep things interesting, and helps engage your body's natural fat burning processes. More work, less time. Good luck dude.

Also, I thought this was gay before I tried it but, cut down your bread intake. Unless it's first thing in the morning, or before you work out. If you're going to still eat bread eat less dense slices, and try to aim for whole wheat. I know its in the food pyramid and such but your body digests it really slowly.

yo mark, those diet sodas are pretty terrible for ya too. aspartame causes blood disorders amongs other things. i only rock the occasional local hosmer mtn soda (made in willimantic). they use cane sugar, no syrups there. moderation with that shit is everything

i found for myself, i rock an ancestral diet with a bit of dabble of other things. i figure what my ancestors have been eating for centuries, is prob the best way to go. since im slavic and italian, i rock 2 of the best cultural cusines. but then again, if i tried to get fat, i couldnt being that im a drummer. i always try to put on a little beef before winter hits just for warmth.

I'm about 250 right now, could stand to lose about 5-10 but that probably won't happen.

On a more positive note, I benched 345 for 2 today -- my goal this year is to get 405 for 1, if my elbows and shoulders stay healthy.

i actually do put elements of the paleo diet into my diet. i live in the rural area. freezer full of deer meat, wild berries, and garden veggies canned up in mason jars. but giving up grain completely aint happenin here. pasta and pierogis are way too good

I like the way the paleo diet emphasizes: meat, berries, vegetables, fat, and violent conquest and consumption of innocent creatures that would otherwise star in Disney films.

When I went to Italy for 9 days 2 years ago, all I did was eat excessive amounts of pasta, meat, cheese and bread. I lost 8 pounds in that period, then gained it all back while being sick as fuck for a week when I got back. NOTHING is processed there. Not even ketchup packets! Crazy!

theres lots of rabbits runnin around work and im thinkin of trappin em.
the trick to pierogis is taking a good few hours, having parties where fat joints are rolled, and you homemake em in an assembly line fashion. then everyone involved gets a bunch of freeze after you all pig out on em on the initial making. pierogi parties are the shit. just say the word if any of you want me to lay out the dough measurements for ya

i dig what your saying, but add a wife, two kids and not having enough cash or time to go to a gym and it's tough. I could get up early and go for a yog I suppose.

I'm almost at my heaviest weight again (220). 180 was my thinnest. I don't think I was ever thin.

On the plus side, I ate a bacon and egg cheeseburger at IHOP with my mother today. Mmmmmmm...
