just got home from the albany show, psyopus was amazing as always, mouth of the architect and complete failure were tops, today is the day's set was riddled with technical difficulties and wierd looking middle aged goth dudes singing along, one of said weird middle aged goth dudes was rob fusco of one king down/most precious blood fame, as a HUGE okd fan, that made the show worth the price of admission right there |

the venue rules. the bands rule. I am so glad I came to this. |

complete failure: besides the doomy song in the middle, this was total the crown worship. The singer's voice reminded me of the hell is here era crown. I don't think that was thomas singing then... Maybe it was the live tracks with him singing. A definite at the gates vibe too. Not in the trendy "I got slaughter of the soul at hot topics with my xmas money" metalcore way either. It was very raw and not over like the carcass worship bands. |
psyopus: this is my first time seeing them with this current line up. The new bassplayer, mike, wasn't exactly as awe-insiring as freddy, but then again, when I saw freddy, greg, and chris synched up in the basement of an allston punk house, im not sure it anything could quite match up with that. The drummer actually plays with more "heart" than the previous 2 drummers... But it also looks like he's hunting a bit. I'm sure, give a bit of time, they will work it all out. Right now, it's just so new of a line up. The newest was obvious justing the "jams song that someone is going to tell me was a real song, but idk still. During that song, it looked more like 3 people jamming and not the tech-metal show off session that played out with the previous members. Musicially, the techy version sounds better, but the new guys look like they are having more fun. If any of that makes sense. The good news is that the new singer has total mastery of the new CD. You could almost picture that it's him on that CD. At the end of their set, the singer jumped into the crowd right at me. I pulled my camera into my chest and ducked a bit so he went over me, but cause the back of my hoodie. As I walked back freaking happy that nothing was broken, but then I felt my nose start to bleed for the 3rd time today. I gotta keep both my and my friends fingers out of there. |
great set by titd, what was with the psycho chick? venue was pretty sweet. |
that was the masinator. she had one too many. |
awesome show. Howl is definitely one of the best bands in Boston. |
Who ever the kids with the mogul phones there who I was talking geek too, email me! I have qquestions.
howl: kind of weird that they were on in the middle, but a it makes sense I guess. They were a nice lead into MOTA. Short set, but their brand of over-driven rock was a nice addition. When they started the lights were low... They had them raise a bunch. Howl was a deal breaker..er.. No wait the opposite of a breaker. Um... A binder? Anyhow, seeing them on the bill convinced me I had to go.
mouth of the architect: fantastic. I don't have a single on of their CDs, but it doesn't matter. They sounded a lot more like rosetta and a lot less like isis, imho. They had more random keyboard noises back then. Even one of the guitar players looked like the singer from rosetta with a shaved head. I heard they had a line up change recently. This was still such a tight set. They were the opposite of howl for lighting. They wanted the lights low low low.
today is the day: so... Weeeeellll was I he only one that didn't know chris left/took a leave of absence? The new guy was ok, but no chris. I had seem chris in the audience so I didn't think that there would be someone different on stage. Also, steve invited him to sing on stage and he didn't. He just stayed in the crowd screaming into the monitor. The fill in drummer was also just ok. He was much more suited for comfail. After seeing brad, gillis, and roddy, it would be hard for even jesus christ (who was phenomenal in his highschool marching band) to complete with a drummer-orgraphy like that. Their set-list was similiar to what I remember from the last show. They played music from all over their collection too. I don't know the new CD at all so I don't know what they played from that, but I love the sadness songs that sound like nin are some of my favorite tracks. |
DON'T HURT MEEEE |
This song goes out to Angry Al. |
We saw this tour kick off in Nashville. Complete Failure ripped it up, Psyopus was missing Harrison but still killed, Today is the Day played all the best songs except, "Shoot every fucking pig!" and Mouth of the Architect had so many technical difficulties that they only played one song. We drank all of Psyopus' beers and had a blast.
Today is the Day definitely could have been tighter but I'm sure they will be soon. We're playing with them in Texas in a few weeks so hopefully I'll get to see the screws tightened. Oh yea, we're playing with'em at Murderfest too. MURDERFEST and DUDEFEST are the fests to be at this year! |
Also what happened to JOE NOT COMMON at this show haha. |
still the only TITD show that I've been to where it was pretty packed. Crazy. Great show. |
