The pronunciation of ä really confuses me. It seems to be pronounced in different ways & I am never sure which way to say it. I know that spätzli is pronounced softly as in the English word hay but I've also heard people pronounce plätz with a hard a as in apple. I am just getting this completely wrong? What is the correct way to pronounce ä?
