New site? Maybe some day.
Ive heard you now need a passport to get into Canananandada, anyone know the deal? |
call the boarder, but I've been able to get in. I think that they are implementing a passport thing with the new RFID passports, but they can't really do the passpor thing with canada or mexico cause of NAFT. |
Yes it is true. Im not sure if it has started yet though. If it hasnt it will very soon (less then a year I'd think) |
or what the rev said. What I heard was over a year ago now. |
Yes you do need a passport to get into Canada now. |
DRAFT
thats all it can mean
we're fucked |
carina, where is my pp?
naft should should stop this however. since the US AG would be the one stopping this... well.. I don't see him doing this ever.
I'm sure that once there are "real ids" those will work too.
MDB is probably right. go iraq. go iran. |

Jan. 1st in either 2007 or 2008, you will need a passport to get into Canada and to leave that horrible place. |
If you are black, you will never get in. Well, because, black people go like...this. |

You need a passport now? That sucks, those things are wicked expensive. It's just CANADA. |
Theyre expensive?
Like how expensive? |
Last time I went for one it was like 80 bucks. I said fuck it. |
80 bucks to go 1 mile into canadian territory? PFFFFFT.
They can continue to fuck off. |
You can still get into Canada hassle free via a rowboat across Lake Erie right? We haven't done anything about that security hole yet have we? |
maybe across that big lake in northern VT. i know someone who ice skated across it to buy acid |
I remember there being a few news reports on how even after 9/11 you could still take your boat across the great lakes as long as you signed in at an unmaned booth near a landing along the shore.
Which is about as stupid as museums that do the whole "suggested donation" thing in lieu of admission but for terrorists. |
instead of posting here and telling canada to eff off why not actually call a legit resource smartmouth?
we;ve nver used them and haven't had issues |
i went up last month. i went through newport, vt and crossed the border there without stopping. |
$80 for my passport and they got my bday wrong on it. |
what do you need in order to get a passport? drivers license and what else? |
you fill out a form and send with with what they request (which includes photos).
go to the post office for the form. |

OOOOH, SASSY!! |

I just cant seem to find Canada's number anywhere.....I thought I had it, but now Ive misplaced it.............. |
It's good to have a passport anyway for wherever you might travel, especially for those who tour a lot. |
I'd love to have one but I won't be spending 80 bucks until I absolutely have to.
They have some new ones coming out next year or something with a computer chip in them. I'm sure they'll cost even more. |

Well thanks, Captain.
Tell me, when was the last time you needed to travel abroad to tour? |

And thank you very much, you are a good person.
Mad at the world, and still offers help.

March of this year, there have been four occasions I've gone abroad as an adult. I got the opportunity to go to Sweden for a week in the summer of 2000 and 2001, where I played some solo performances. I also met Pontus Norgren (founded Talisman with Marcel Jacobs, Yngwie's old bass player; Norgren is pretty much considered second to Yngwie on guitar in Sweden) at Pub Anchor in Stockholm, and he invited me to his apartment the next day to jam, I still have the tape (not touring, I know, but a cool story). Then for a week in 2004 and three weeks in 2006, I got the chance to stay with relatives in Iran, and almost every night was me giving a concert in a different place.
As far as the band's touring, we haven't gone abroad just yet, but my cousin who lives in Stockholm sent me an e-mail a couple days back inviting me to come stay with him again, and I had already been planning on calling Pub Anchor and a couple other venues in Sweden to see if booking a few shows will cover the cost of plane tickets for the whole band.
But regardless, there are certainly other bands here that have played shows in Japan and elsewhere, so I don't think I was being condescending to suggest that a passport is a good thing to carry. If you're a musician, or even if you're not, an American Passport is one of the most valuable things in the world you can have. |
I stopped reading at 'relatives in Iran'.
But traveling abroad on personal vacation isnt touring.
I have no reaon to get a passport, as I wont be leaving this continent, probably ever. (barring an Italian trip when Im older).
All I want to do is bring my wife to Niagara Falls, so she puts out the pork. |
ps....just kiddin about stopping at 'Iran'
but, now I understand where your political standpoints come from.
I met a kid who said he was Franco's grandson at a Peter and the Test tube babies show in Barcelona, in 1984.His friend had the coolest hand drawn t-shirt , which had that skanking DRI logo on it. |

Well, keep in mind dude, I was born and raised in America, and have only been over there three times in my life, for a combined total of only about three months. My political standpoints have always come from my own observations as an American, my parents never tried to tell me what to think when it came to that stuff (they're also not Muslim by the way, they're agnostic). Just making sure there aren't any of the standard assumptions made... |

I agree, and I can understand you arguing that playing a few parties in Sweden is too informal to consider touring, but in Iran, playing in front of audiences of 20 - 30 drunk people at parties in fifteen different locations IS all the touring you can do, because there are no clubs for any music unauthorized by the government.
Anyway, my point was, official or not, I couldn't have done all that stuff without a passport.
Italy's a cool place, by the way, I didn't mention it because it was just a stopover on the trips to and from Iran, but this last time we actually had time to leave the airport and spend the day walking through Milan, check out an OLD fucking church, and eat pizza at a restaurant on an old cobblestone road. I definitely recommend it. (Although if you go, out of all the countries in Europe, Italians are the least likely to speak English.) |
A passport to get into Canada? you've got to be kidding..that's like needing a passport to go into VT. Hey Shadow, what was Iran like? |
No. For the time being all you need are two things to get into Canada.
1. A valid state issued photo ID
2. A birth certificate |
my girlfriend got into canada like 3 weeks ago with no passport. |
I went to Montreal last month. Awesome place, can't wait to go back.
Driver's license and supposedly birth certificate. I never showed my birth certificate. Going into canada they stopped me at the border for about 2 minutes and just asked where I was going. Coming back into the states took forever and they search through stuff.
Passports to canada start jan 1st 2008.
Also I had some friends that where supposed to play a free festival in Montreal and they would not let them into the country without a work visa. Who knows why you need a work visa to play for free? |
I can confirm above info ^^^ I couldn't find that number so I called the one I know and thye gave me the 411. Getting stopped and questioned is random...they do judge you on apeprance though...
be prepared to answer:
Where are you going?
Where will you be staying?
How long will you be staying?
Do you have any alcohol or cigarettes to declare?
I think there's a firearm question too..but i forget exactly what...but asking if you have any in the car. |
