As per the rev

quills: I looked up on stage and say someone on bass and it could only be jason from misery index. hah! The singer was eric (who put on the show). short grind songs sort of like magrudergrind in the length of the songs, but didn't sound like them at all. It was more akin to the shitstorm from the magrudergrind split.

magrudergrind: they didn't play as many songs as I wanted them too, but they started off with a track from the new CD. I think it was emo holocaust (the one with the slow beginning). the singer jumped a bunch of times. I missed the high kick off the drum set (but matt http://myspace.com/mwtphotography got it). whenever I see them, they talk about the DC scene and it makes me want to go check it out. Tons of bands.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 3:03pm
since mesrine cancelled due to border troubles, there was a long pause. SPLATTER HOUSE would have player... But they could find the singer.

total_fucking_destruction: they got a longer set out of the deal. That would have been awesome, but it spent that extra time over behind dwyer's table where they sounded like "bongbongbongbong tinkatinkatinka bongbongbongbong tinktinktink." they played some really nice groovey grind parts. All 4 people in the band had mics too. the drummer's mic was messed up in the beginning. it took a while for them to figure that one out. Once they got it fixed, the band kicked off. One of the guys looked like that guy from the TV show "riptide". in the end, dani loocker never came out with them and their set didn't seem too long.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 3:44pm
mucupurulent: this is the first band to use pitchshifted vocals. Both the drummer and one of the guitar players did vocals. The guitarist's vocals were pitchshifted. Unfortunantely, the bass was way too high so you more felt than heard the lo vox inside the club. outside, on the lawn across the street, I sounded perfect. I came back in and the sound had gotten so much better. It seems like they really wanted to use up their time on stage. I think they played a lot longer than TFD played. these guys follow in the foot steps soundwise as a lot of the obscene extreme bands. I bet their CDs kill.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 4:27pm
YACÖPSAE: having never heard these guys before, I'm expecting incrust. They were a little crusty sounding. It was the way the drummer did sporadic blasts. The drummer was the best part of the band. He remined me of mikeMSD (BOE) except non of the clicky triggered-sounding kickdrum. he played about as effortlessly. The songs they played came from albums with german names that I couldn't even attenpt to understand.

rev, whenever you come down to dc to check out some shows you got a place to crash if you want. magrudergrind is great.

thanks.

embalmer: dwyer will probably post a news story about this, but they will have a CD out oct 13th on pathos so I will let him post about that.dwyer went up and anounced these guys. I know I've heard some relapse stuff from them, but I forget it. It was a wicked long time ago. They sounded awesome. Pure brutal death metal. The singer does a funny scream at the end of a couple of songs. Other that that, he just drops the bottom out of his vocals.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 5:54pm
since there was confusion above. I was saying he did some screams, but usually, his vocals are just wicked low.

sayyadina: I had some how not had them on my schedule. They in no way shape or form looked like or sounded like rompeprop so I ran around trying to figure out who they were. It sounded a little like old school thrash. Sort of like disfear. These guys would have gone over well at the disfear show.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 6:54pm
rompeprop: now there's the band I was think of. I think the drummer is a new guy. If I remember correctly, the other drummer was a bald guy. their sound was probably the best of the night thus far. The singer had a dual mic set up with a pitch shifter on the mic that he sang into and a regular mic to sing into. Fecal ed got up for a song and sang. That was cool. I really want to get on of their CDs. they ended a song and the sound guy thought they were ending the set because he turned on the house mix, but the singer said "what is that? We still have time" they played 2 more after he turned of the house.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 8:32pm
disfear: my second time seeing them in a short period of time. Their set was awesome. thomas is one of the best front men ever and got people all charged up even though they were the only rockish band on this bill. It was kind of odd seeing them play on a stage, separated by the barricade after seeing them play at club giza the other day. Thomas went down into the crowd a few times, but it wasn't quite the same. At one point, he full on tripped the stage right guitarist by accident. Luckily, he missed the drum set by a few inches. the set ended with thomas on the ground just like at the last show.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 8:38pm
severe_torture: absolutely disgusting sounding death metal. On that stage, they were so much more brutal than I would have thought they would be. The last time I saw them was at NEMHF 2002 and they were on the main stage... You should know what that means. The second their set ended, the floor cleared. I guess there aren't many unholy grave fans here.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 9:27pm
unholy grave: ok, by the time they started, the floor filled back in. 4 little asian fellows took the stage and WTF!?! That vocalist was 90 pounds and rips barney (napalm death) a new corn hole. So much raw rice anger. I don't think they speak very good english. First off, one of their songs was something like "left right left right left right down!" second, I read their setlist and 20 minutes later a guy showed up with 13 order of pork fried rice for me. now what am I going to do? This is the first band that got begger to come back and did. They played one more song and I went into the mosh pit to snap.

Once again, the floor cleared out the second the band ended.. Weird.. hope they come back for cattle decap.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 11:16pm
cattle decapitation: this is the only band the made the stage people remove the backline and put in their own equipment. This made them start a lot later cause of the longer set up time. As before, people filled right in for their set. It started off with problems. The mic was f'd up. Travis tossed it on the ground and ran to the side of the stage. Once that was fix, he ran across the stage and was almost clothslined; short mic chord. They played 2 new tracks from their new CD (june 16th on metal blade I think). One of the new tracks had a different scream at the beginning and sounded more simple and straight up, but about 2/3rds the way through the song it broke into the usual squeeling and the guitar got so much better. I don't know if they wrote this song with their second guitarist, but it sort of sounded that way. Btw, the second guitarist was abscent. I think I heard he quit, but I'm probably wrong. this is the first time I saw them with the newest drummer if I'm not mistaken.
For their last song, "the decapitation of cattle", they sent the world's shortest song out to the shortest fan, that little kid in the audience. And everyone cheered! The end.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 28,2006 11:22pm
necrophagist: they got to use CD's drumset so the set up time was quicker. Even so, they still were running late and had to race through their set which btw was almost too much. in the end, they play the same exact set they played at NEMHF. each time they start sounding like just another deathmetal band, the song turns a 180 and heads off into another direction all together. The stage was completely crowded for them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 29,2006 12:36am
pungent stench: this totally brought back the show I saw years ago at lupos. they weren't as perverse this time. I remember them saying a lot of gross things in between songs. This time, there was a just straight ahead assault of heavey pounding death metal. of course like with all there songs, if you can actually hear the vocals, you may hear some of the most vile things imaginable. Stuff about well, missing body parts, sexual predation, and the intersection of them all. the songs just don't sound like they are saying anything wrong.. until you hear "suck my stump." They played for a really long time, compared to other bands. They definitly filled the whole 45 minutes and most of that was almost seemlessly running through multiple tracks. at them end, the crowd chanting something. I think it was "eat my clit".

Sick Fest. Great bands, great people, and great feet photos!

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at May 30,2006 2:10pm
I can't believe the dude in Pungent Stench plays a Telecaster...

toggletoggle post by chris_from_shit_fuck  at May 30,2006 2:57pm
The second day was defenitly the best. I've waited along time to see Pungent Stench, and they were absolutley phenomenal. They set up their merch booth next to the Bestial Onslaught table, so I talked to the guys all day. It was awesome.

Dismember was fucking awesome, the only problem was that the club made them stop like 8 minutes before 2:00 am. They closed with "Dreaming in Red" though, which is my favorite song by them.

Cattle Decapitation was wicked good too, sucks that Travis had mic problems. I talked to him later about it, and he said it isn't a cattle show without some fuck-ups.

Disfear was insane, it was awesome to hear "The Horns" in person. The new song they played, "The Furnace" was pretty damned good. Different for Disfear, but I liked it alot.

Anybody hear anything about two people dying there? I've been told about it, but I can't find any information.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at May 30,2006 7:33pm
it smelled like a lot of people died, but i dont remember anything like that happening.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 30,2006 7:42pm
I don't think anyone died.
but 2 mexicians stabbed each other with broken bottles on the first day.

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at May 31,2006 12:45am
Yeah, Deep Send Records packed up early after that happened in front of his terrified wife.

Haha holy shit, I didn't hear anything about anyone getting stabbed. As far as anyone dying, I was passed the fuck out on the sidewalk in front of the venue for a couple hours on Saturday, so I'm sure it kinda looked like I was dead.

dismember: it seems like only yesterday that me and 25-35 people stayed through shadows fall at the pallladium upstairs and watched dismember on the last time they were in the area. Yesterday? Try 5 years ago when the audience slowly watch up the stairs in front of the stage and pushed dismember back agaist the back wall until every one got on the stage with the band. I went up and shot a bunch. They played a track off the first CD almost immediately before they even played anything off the new CD. I also heard one track of hate campaign I went up on stage and 1/2 the people who were at the palladium were up on the maryland stage. Times never change I guess. all in all, I think pungent stench should have headlined. dismember was good, but they seemed tired and pungent stench put on a performance that was more "headlining" if you get what I mean.

before I left, I got offers of places to sleep in australia from alarum (do I have to sleep in the yahd?) and saw the Anata guys fake kickboxing each other until security tried to drag them out for fighting.
