just to let you all know the show has been moved to downstairs (not that it matters to most but those taking pics it makes a difference)

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Sep 28,2003 2:43pm
yeah i prefer it...we were talking about it yesterday actually and thought it was downstairs to begin with

that's cool

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 28,2003 2:45pm
hm... I should be on with century media with a photo pass
*crosses fingers*

toggletoggle post by Ninkaszi187   at Sep 28,2003 3:45pm
I thought it was always downstairs? Thats kind of good I guess. At least it won't be as crowded as it would be upstairs. My guess, most of the crowd leaves after SYL. I can't wait for this show. Cathedral, SYL, and Samael are going to rule.

Are there any opening bands?

toggletoggle post by Ninkaszi187   at Sep 28,2003 3:47pm
Shit, nevermind. I didn't notice Blistered Earth was playing.

toggletoggle post by Lynneaus  at Sep 28,2003 4:01pm
oh btw.... palladium website (and as far as i remembered from yesterday) doors are 7 show 8 but i could be wrong.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 28,2003 4:11pm
I'm guessing that there will be lots of metal gayity.
I'm going to be snapping pictures like a dirty little mofo.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 29,2003 1:43am
I'm home and uploading the pictures as we speak.

my review:

ok, first off on the way to this show, I was talking about the fact that there are so many shows coming around the area and that at some point there is going to be a time where kids won't have the $$ to go to all these shows and that attendance would drop... dramatically... was this the time? I do know thet with all the shows I go to, there has been a HUGE decrease in the amount of people attending. The turn out at this show was pretty poor.

second, my flash was messed up so a lot of the pictures that I took sucked.

blistered earth: lot of people yelling metallica at them. it was also funny that they lead singer's favorite song they do is my favorite song too. Mostly cause I don't care for the james hatfield vocals and the track is an instrumental so.. you put it all together. These guys were totally rocking out for syl.

cathedral: there are a lot of things that I can say right now about their performance... mostly words that begin with an 's' and end in a 'uck'. I listende to their last cd and tought it was ok.. but live was terrible. They played the same riffs over and over and over. It just dragged on soooo much like a bad stoner rock dream.

strapping young lad: Devin in the man. He is so terribly gross, funny, and self-deprecating on stage, it's amazing. He danced around, talked about jerking off, picked his nose and ate it, all though one liners like "you get the real deal with the coolest hair".

samael: seeing as I was not a fan AT ALL of the last cd, this was a big surprise for me. It sounded pretty good. Especially cause I couldn't really hear all the electronics which is what pisses me off on the last cd. The Singer walked out of the stage with a scrunchy and in a skirt and then did these little petite hand-gesters.... it was odd, but good. I think that they were much better then I would have expected cause the electronics were turned fown.

anyone else notice that the bass player for Samael could be a real life Gefling?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 29,2003 1:58am
YES I was thinking that same exact thing...
him, the bassist for opeth and cathedral could have their own gd dark crystal re-enactment.

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Sep 29,2003 2:00am
stop making fun of bass players! =[

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Sep 29,2003 2:03am
he was the happiest bass player EVER

blistered earth: metallica did go back to their old sound after all.

cathedral: a bowl of s-u-c-k.

strapping young lad: easily stole this show, should have headlined. devin is definetly the man. I wonder what his wife is like?

samael: a little dissapointing live. recorded I dig these guys a lot more. their bass player was funny as hell to watch.

thank you strobe light

Haha, I can always count on this site for pics of my looking like some metal homo.

My Review

1:entertaining
2:rediculously funny. What was with the singer and his mouth. He looked like he forgot to rinse out the tooth paste

SYL: KICK ASS! Strapping are one of my top 3 bands to see live because they are always so much fun. They should of headlined, I thought they were gonna play alot more. I was counting on All Hail The New Flesh, Happy Camper, just more :(

Sameal: Seemed really neat, I wanted to watch more of them but twas a schoolnight and I had to go home. (hey atleast I got to see Strapping)

home: I got home at like 11:30....didn't fall asleep until 3:00...stupid Sigur Ros couldn't even kill the excitement

I got there too late and saw one song (HOPKINS!!!) of Cathedral. I was pissed. They sounded awesome on that song at least.

SYL - awesome. They sounded so heavy. Glad they played Detox, and Oh My Fucking God. I wouldn't shut up yelling Underneath The Waves at them heh.

SAMAEL- well, they are one of my all time favorite bands so I knew they were going to rule just like last time in 99. The Eternal songs sounded a lot more raw live so that was cool. Black Trip and Son Of Earth sounded perfect. I taped it, sounds really good. Heil Samael.

Well I wanted to go but I changed my mind and went to see Exhumed in Springfield.

toggletoggle post by todayistheday at Sep 30,2003 12:25am
how was the exhumed show anyway? good turnout? strapping young lad ruled and definitly should have headlined. The tunout wasnt that bad ...there were a good number of people there. samael was alright i guess...the bass player was a little too happy......cathedral was blah...i was cracking up the whole time at the bassist and the singer...theywere goofy ashell. Overall a descent show.

toggletoggle post by armageddonday   at Sep 30,2003 12:56pm
I don't really know what's the usual turnout for Springfield, I don't think it was that great (around 70/80 people, maybe more) but again...they played in RI Saturday, plus there was the Samael show. They should have booked only one New-England show...and get one on the way out to CA.

toggletoggle post by kellthevalkyrie  at Oct 1,2003 2:40pm
did anyone else think that the singer of Cathedral had a pair of socks stuffed in his crotch area? maybe that's just me. anyway, i thought they sucked with a capital suck. i went for Devin. he is a musical genius. Gene is too.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Oct 1,2003 2:48pm
i wasn't really a fan of Cathedral...

oh and kell, i think i saw ya!
