the night rocked

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Oct 4,2003 3:46am
raising kubrick: ok, I thought it was going to be suspect having them do their whole set with just the girl singing, but I think I actually like that better. I guess don't be in a hurry to find a new guy... just get the bass-player or blue or drummer to do some back up vocals and you are all set. but what do I know.. I'm only a male photographer.

hirudinea: played an awesome set. though... they stopped at one point where I thought they were going to play another song. sadly, they stopped. How many songs do you guys have?

phantom limb: another great set from one of the best sounding 2-pieces around. hopefull joe puts out something from them soon.

conifer: first time seeing these guys and wow.. it's like slint and the new melvins had a baby. Funny thing, I bumped in to a high school friend before getting to the show and he wanted to form a band... what he describe sounded just like conifer.

kevorkians angels: Getting shut down by the sound guy is so punk. Actually, that sucks! they played a bunch of songs, but got shut early. oh well. they played great anyhow.

then I almost ran out of gas riding around stupid somerville cause rt 1 was closed due to that stupid big dig.

Fuck everything.

toggletoggle post by Pete at Oct 4,2003 1:32pm
Al the bands kicked ass. K. Angels should have been allowed to play longer. But they still blasted without mercy. I give them four ninja turtles.:.:NEWHORNS

thanks to all who went to Obriens...we had a fucking awesome night...

Raising Kubrick-fucking great. first time hearing them, didn't know they were missing a vocalist. It didn't affect anything from my point of view, nothing seemed missing,it was all there....tight changes, interesting music, unbelievable vocals,WELL DONE!!!

Hirudinea-unfortunatly missed them due to a hankering for some pulled pork samiches,i've seen them before,we'll play with them again no doubt, sorry i missed you guys....

Phantom Limb-impressive as always. Guitar should have been louder. that guitarist is humbling,so fucking good on that King V....

Conifer-Baritone guitar,Ric bass,SG,fastest right foot on clear drums....these guys are my new favorites.....Melvins meets Godflesh.....dirge for the soul....and they fart alot

whoever that hot girl was that liked my Tom Waits shirt, get in touch.....
theebradness@yahoo.com

and to the Reverend, you've outdone yourself with our pictures. The ones with multiple images are phenomonal....BRAVO!!!

DON'T FORGET TONIGHT IN PORTLAND!
THE LAST NIGHT OF PART ONE OF THE KILLING SPREE
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

o'briens:

raising kubrick: awesome, they should stick with just one singer.
so much tighter and better presence then when i last saw them.
fuck you to whoever doesn't like them.

hirudinea: total fucking insanity! i love this band and you should too. they gave me their new demo, but i havent had a chance to hear it yet.
see them live, or be gay you fag

phantom limb: awesome as usual, the white stripes of death metal rock
new cd coming soon from NotCommon

conifer: awesome heavy and experimental. i don't really know alot of stuff like this, but these guys are brutal. make sure to check them out in what i hope will be a continued presence in the area

kevorkian's angels: fast, fast, and fast. fuck you.
the current issue of the noise has a live review of them from the last time they played o'briens with Bane of Existence and Ascendancy.
go read that.

toggletoggle post by phantos   at Oct 4,2003 7:03pm
Joe .. you are fucking gay. you fucktard!

toggletoggle post by joe/notcommon   at Oct 5,2003 10:17am

toggletoggle post by joe/notcommon   at Oct 5,2003 10:33am
it sucks that the killing spree only lasted 3 days, it was a fucking blast.
thanks again to all the bands who helped out (ascendancy, basiliskk, raising kubrick, hirudinea, phantom limb, totimoshi).
Hanging out with Conifer and KA all weekend was a fucking blast.
There will be more of this sort of thing going on, so keep your eyes peeled.

This show ruled. I am still recovering. Every band was cool.

Raising Kubrick-this was my first time hearing them. I thought it was great. The singer's vocals were crazy. Really harsh.

Conifer-awesome. I want to do more shows with them.

Phantom Limb-good death metal. I think a bassist would help the overall sound though.

Kevorkians Angels-I'm really into these guys. Awesome metal/punk for negative bastards.

Hirudinea-I thought we were good and I was happy with it. We played the usual four songs and got off. We have six songs overall, but we only played the other two songs at the Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition show in RI.

Thanks Joe for putting on an awesome show. I had a blast and all the bands and crowd were good company.

Cool. We usually tape our sets anyway but it's just on a camcorder on a tripod. Introduce me so I can ask her about future shows, there are some nights when we'd kill to have someone actually moving around the room getting cool shots and all that fun stuff.

ive heard people call this a tour i mean its only three dates jesus and a killing spree give me a break maybe fi it was 10 or 20 dates.(this not an insult to the bands or anything just a comment)

toggletoggle post by University of Joe McNamara at Oct 6,2003 3:17pm
because it was only 3 dates, we changed the name from a tour to a killing spree.
but there was much more drinking and debauchery in these 3 days then there are on most tours.
crazy asians, name calling, cat chasing, public sex and all sorts of crazy shit happened.

thanks joe, we really appreciate the compliment and the show you got us. dont worry about the singer situation, im pretty sure were going to stick to our current lineup, with the possiblity of pete (drums) doing occasional back up lows.

awesome, i am going to be taking some time off from booking shows, but once i get back into it expect to hear from me.

kubrick is slowly evolving into the "genre defying metal experience" which they boast to be.
truth be told i liked em better when they had pete singing. moreover, i liked the dready guitar player they used to have jeff?- he had some killer chops, quite brutal, although nostalgia is not what it used to be. not ironically, i heard the dready dude and some other kid were starting a three piece death metal project. heard them rage for a bit late last weekend and they were impressive, melding together elements of thrash and death. keep an eye out, could be interesting...

toggletoggle post by frank  at Oct 27,2003 7:14pm
my bad..past singer was dave. drummer = pete.

toggletoggle post by phantos   at Oct 27,2003 7:30pm
Kubrick is some killer stuff...
Ive only seen them once... but I was in no way disappointed.

we are doing it again and with them...

i disagree about the singing, sarah (?) is much better by herself.
they have gotten way better since losing that guy (musically and vocally)
