Originally inspired by the National Day of Prayer that religious groups created to draw attention to their beliefs, the National Day of Slayer was thought to be a holiday on June 6, 2006 -- that's 6/6/06 -- but now it has grown.

http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/

Thanks to support and enjoyment around the world, the National Day of Slayer is now the INTER-National Day of Slayer, and it happens every year on June 6 starting at hour six. On this day, metalheads worldwide stop the pointless activities of a boring world and listen to Slayer.

International Day of Slayer is bigger than one nation, or even one band. It's a celebration of metal music through one of its most articulate spokesbands. It's also revelry in the spirit that makes metal great. So on June 6, stop everything... and listen to SLAYER!

Celebrate the International Day of Slayer, a holiday for all metalheads and those who like Slayer! Every other culture gets its time in the spotlight so it's time for metalheads to get the same. This June 6, starting at 6 AM (get it, 6/6:6?), do no work but listen to Slayer instead.

Originally designed to mock the "National Day of Prayer," the International Day of Slayer has grown through a groundswell of public support. Slayer CDs have been mailed to the White House, politicians pressed to make the holiday legal, and finally, Slayer themselves responded with a video message of support.

Join us... in listening to Slayer. June 6, all day, listen to Slayer, or we'll eat your immortal souls.

Tomorrow, Saturday June 6, is the International Day of Slayer.

This is a day to do no work and listen to Slayer, because you're a metalhead and you think the world should recognize metal as a culture.

Being a culture has its advantages. People understand that your values and your music are important to you. They give you space.

Even more important is sending a message to the world that this music has a vital spirit that brings people together, even into a culture. We aren't following the path of others, but our own path.

Where we agree on similar attitudes and values is our culture. The metal culture. And Slayer upholds this ideal, fast and furious and full of horror, like no others.

So this Saturday, celebrate the International Day of Slayer:

* Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

And pass the word along to other metalheads.

Probably for Slayer's "Angel of Death"

They block lots of things, including MapQuest.

Slayer's official mailing list contained this update about the International Day of Slayer. Slayer will be celebrating the International Day of Slayer with a t-shirt sale and hopefully, commemorating it by playing lots of their own music to themselves.

Cool:

This Sunday, June 6, heavy metal fans from around the world will unite to celebrate the fourth International Day of Slayer (IDoS), and demand the official recognition of June 6 as a public holiday. Those who observe the holiday are encouraged to stage "Slay-outs:" "Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car, in your home, at your place of employment, and in any public place you prefer." Headphones are considered an offense to the movement.

When this crusade first launched four years ago on 06/06/06, it was in response to the American "National Day of Prayer," which is held on the first Thursday of May. Gaining momentum every year, the IDoS Board last year petitioned the White House for official recognition of the holiday, citing that "heavy metal music is the central belief of a culture that exists among us, and Slayer is the perfect spokesperson."

During a recent interview with AOL's NoiseCreep, Slayer's Kerry King said about the IDoS, "I think it's awesome, and it's totally cool that fans have taken the time to maintain it. Slayer should have a national holiday - there are enough stupid holidays out there, so why not have one for us?"

In support of its latest album, World Painted Blood, Slayer - guitarists King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo - is currently on a massive European tour that includes several Sonisphere Festival dates where they will perform as part of the "heavy metal dream" Big Four - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Slayer will return to North America in late July to co-headline (with Megadeth) the east coast Canadian Carnage tour, and then, starting August 11, the American Carnage tour. Slayer's entire summer tour schedule can be accessed at www.slayer.net

The fourth International Day of Slayer (June 6, 2010) is here. This means you have a bona fide excuse to take the day off, blast Slayer at your pesky fellow citizens, and generally be a metalhead with no regrets! Slayer kicked off the countdown last night to the literal 6/6/6 (June 6, 6 am, HAIL SATAN). Send us your carnage photos and war stories when you're done. In the meantime, we've prepared a collection of Slayer videos to make it even easier to blast Slayer today.
