New England Metal and Hardcore Festival '06

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEBRUARY 22, 2006

ESP Guitars and Krank Amps present
8th Annual New England Metal And Hardcore Festival
Friday April 28, Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30

The Palladium - 261 Main St. - Worcester, MA
MassConcerts is proud to announce that the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival will return once again to the Palladium in Worcester, Mass., on Friday April 28, Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30. Friday tickets are $35.00; Saturday and Sunday individual day tickets are $40.00. Three-day passes are $109.50. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 24 at 10:00am at all Strawberries Record Stores, online at tickets.com, or by calling tickets.com at (800) 477-6849.

Proclaimed in past years as one of the best American festivals focusing on heavy music, the three-day show will host numerous metal, hardcore, and metalcore bands along with a jam-packed vendor area where fans can purchase hard-to-find CDs, t-shirts, and other music merchandise. ESP Guitars will be giving away guitars and Krank Amps will be giving away amps and even a half stack. These two great companies will also be bringing you up close and personal with some of the bands they endorse - so as we get closer to fest we will have schedule of artist signings and other surprises. "If you decide to go to only one fest this year, this should be it," says Revolver Magazine and MetalJudgment.com calls it "...hands down, the best metal fest in the world."

The show will once again take place on two stages at The Palladium. Bands that have already been confirmed for the festival are: Lacuna Coil, Gamma Ray, DragonForce (first time EVER in America!), Arch Enemy, Chimaira, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bullet For My Valentine, Exodus, Cryptopsy, 100 Demons, A Perfect Murder, Alarum, Arsis, Bloodline Calligraphy, Bronx Casket Company, Byzantine, Caliban, Cattle Decapitation, Colin Of Arabia, Damnation AD, Dead To Fall, Death Threat, Demiricous, Dying Eyes Bleed, Ed Gein, Embrace The End, Folly, Full Blown Chaos, Goat Horn, God Forbid, Hate Eternal, Horse The Band, Hypersolid, If Hope Dies, Immolation, Inked In Blood, Into Eternity, Ion Dissonance, Ligeia, Losa, Mercury Switch, Necrophagist, Neuraxis, Nodes Of Ranvier, On Broken Wings, Protest The Hero, Ramallah, Righteous Jams, Ringworm, Sanctity, Scars Of Tomorrow, Second Story Window, Shoot To Kill, Since The Flood, Skinless, Still Remains, Suffocation, Sworn Enemy, The Acacia Strain, The Absence, The Classic Struggle, The Miles Between, Torn Assunder, Trouble, Twelve Tribes, Who Killed The Promo Queen, Wolf, xDEATHSTARx, and xLOOKINGFORWARDx.

More bands will be announced in the coming weeks. Talent is subject to change.

"We’ve been extremely happy with how this festival has grown over the years," said MassConcerts Booking Agent and festival co-founder Scott Lee, "and this year the lineup is one of the most varied yet - a great mixture of different styles of bands."

The 8th Annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival is brought to you by ESP Guitars and Krank Amps, teaming up to present the festival this year; Prosthetic Records, which is sponsoring the 2nd Stage upstairs, Revolver Magazine our exclusive magazine partner and creator of the official event program, Facedown Records which is sponsoring our street marketing efforts, FUSE TV, Mazur PR and The Syndicate. Vendors this year include Century Media, Trustkill, Eulogy/Hand of Hope, Metal Blade, Red Rocket Records, and many others.

And thus I will be only going for three bands again.

Gamma Ray, Dragonforce, and Into Eternity.

Is it me or does this thing become more and more medicore Metalcore from down the street each year.

Well, more people feed into ozzfest and their bill's are shittier and it's about the same price for 1 day and less bands. Even if no one from RTTP went to this fest it probably wouldn't put much of a dent into attendance.

oh belive me, i completely agree with that statement.

I belive a protest, of sorts, is in order.

If/When any such campaign happens, its not directed towards any of the musicians playing, be it most of them suck, thats not the issue.

not that anyone cares what i have to say, but i think this is completely out of hand.

well, there are way more bands playing now hence why it's become a 3 day festival. I don't think I'm going to go unless I can get myself on the list again

i just wanna see that necrophagist tour and the cryptopsy tour. that's it. hopefully it can be on one day or two days. perhaps i'll just go to saratoga if worse comes to worse.

maybe there will be a providence date for all of the above.

I heard Kenny Lanning is putting on the fest this year.

toggletoggle post by BornSoVile   at Feb 22,2006 3:49pm
i doubt it cause the dates are already released, plus i wouldn't be surprised if contractually they can't play within 50 miles of worcester or something like that. maybe that's why cryptopsy worked in manch vegas last year.

Gah, I think I'm going to pass on this. As much as I'd love to see Gamma Ray and Goat Horn, the rest of the lineup is basically metalcore 101 and a bunch of the tech death stuff that is also popular with the same crowd (not that I don't like Neuraxis, Cryptopsy etc myself).

2 bands that I'd like to see: Lacuna Coil and Exodus. Seen both before. (Exodus in 1990, TYVM - Pantera, Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies at The Channel in Boston.) The rest of the lineup I honestly couldn't care less about. $109.50 for two bands is a pretty shitty return on a pretty hefty investment. I'll pass, thanks.

toggletoggle post by pam nli at Feb 22,2006 9:36pm
I think I'm all set this year. I'm not even going to try getting a photo pass. I'd love to see Exodus but not at the expense of sitting through all that shit.

I'm mailing in a demo tomorrow just to say I tried, however. Too bad, I do like going at least one day to this fest, but there's just no way this year. First year I've stayed home, ever. It's overpriced, 90% metalcore, and the fest is too fucking big for the palladium. If you're going to rip people off, you should at least allow them 3 inches of breathing space while inside. You can't even get to the upstairs bands. Plus, that many smelly mod kids in one tiny building? Grrrross.

hahah oh, come on keith, just don't go.

I gotta say you cannot see 90% of the bands on this fest for 5-7 dollars locally like you stated. It's a festival and there are 75+ bands but probably will be close to 100 by the time the full lineup is announced. So you figure around 30 bands per day. Other shows with just 4-5 bands can be $10-15. So by your standards lets say it's $7 to see 4 bands, well multiply the amount of bands by 8 = 32. So then 8 x $7 would come out to $56 if you were charging $7 per 4 bands...$56 x 3 days = $168. So by the amount of bands on this fest, $109 is actually cheaper than you would charge

p.s. I do think that $110 is a lot for 3 days of shows, but I'm not going to go on strike or something. You gotta figure a lot of these bands are probably getting paid in the thousands to play.

Thats my point, they realise this,

and in turn cornered the market and can set a price wherever they so desire, thats my argument. When is enough going to be enough?

So you're saying if they were charging $7 for a 3 day pass you wouldn't have started an anti-nemhcf myspace group? With that amount of bands, especially national/worldwide acts on it I'm sure it costs more than we think to put something like that on.

I can understand boycotting years ago when it really sucked, but there are actually a strong number of bands I want to see. If you want to get more attention to the boycott, just invite some nazis, that's what I did in 03.

A myspace group is not going to effect the turnout of this fest. I look at the members of the group already and I don't think I've seen any of them at any previous metalfests.

If you can't afford it, just don't go. Continue seeing localized shows and the larger nationals whenever they come around.

dude, it's a business. If the palladium didn't charge for someone to setup a booth there they'd be giving out space for free. (Does your landlord let you live rent free? no Do american legions let you put on shows in their space for free? no) If you're booth is smart then $1500 is NOTHING because you'll make that back and THEN SOME. You think they want a bunch of little weener's who don't know what they're doing taking up space at such a popular event? hellz no.

If you figure 3,000 kids go to metalfest, even if only 300 kids buy cd's from you at $9/ea you're making making your $1500 back plus another $1200 which is a total of $2700.

the point of my statement was that perhaps with the price on the vendor's increase, you still need to raise the ticket prices to such and obscene amout?

I have no problem with them charging the vendors, the vendor can easily make the money back, plus some, that has nothing to do with what im saying.

so then, how many vendor licenses are issued? x $1500 + % of merch? + food/bar sales? + ticket prices? = ?

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 23,2006 5:29pm
i liked last year's lineup better. king diamond, behemoth, dark tranquillity, obituary. this year's is better than 2 years ago when evergrey was the only band i wanted to see and they cancelled. i was so pissed.

well i never mentioned the word boycott.

but the point is the insane prices, and that its turning into an investment, rather than an art expression.

the most confusing part of this thread is that $1500+$1700=$2700. that really cofuses me to the point of not reading past there.

but dudes, go or don't go, this festival will still sellout like it does every year. this year there is A lot less "bullshit" music than other years. there are a lot more "surprises" in the line up that are really fucking awesome. yes the price for all 3 days is a little much when you look at it, but at least it's not just the same shadowsfall line up that used to happen every year. I think this is a very strong year. and the whiners will always find a reason to bitch about this shit. do me a favor, go to milwaukee metal fest and then come back and tell me nemhf sucks. you want the worst fest ever.. Let's be fair though. Some of the earlier Milwaukee metalfests (late 80s, early 90s) were absolutely phenomenal, with kickass lineups. They suck today (I agree). Also, you have to give Koshick credit, as scummy as he may be, he kept doing them even during the 'dead years' of metal (early to mid 90s). Metal is doing extremely well now, and New England is one of its hotspots, so of course a fest like the NEMHF is going to be successful.

The doom metal Trouble is back together, from what I've heard. Which is why I originally believed it was them playing the NEMHF :( I lose...

Honestly, I'm on the Reverend's side. This fest isn't that bad at all, and just because you actually have to pay a little bit of money people are getting all upset. If one day is only 40 bucks, that's way less than some shitty Ozzfest tickets or even something good, like Slayer tickets. So maybe the local bands you see for 5 or 10 bucks are for ONE DAY going to cost you 3 or 4 times more, think of all the big names from all over the damn world that are playing at this thing. If it's too much, suck it up and wait til you can see your favorite bands at a shitty local club for 5 or 10 bucks again.

I say it's business as usual. If you like a lot of the bands, it's worth the asking price. If not, don't go. The Palladium is paying for it, and they pick the bands. That is the reality. Life goes on. I think 'boycotting' it is just stupid, it's not like it's mandatory to attend the NEMHC Fest.

I've always wanted to do a large fest, though not of this scale, I did put on one Stormfest way back in 1999 in the Lawrence mill of all fucking places. I think I'd aim for a higher % of black, death, doom, thrash, and speed metal, but that's just my preference. Some of my band are going to try our hands at some booking coming up, so we'll see where that leads.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 23,2006 10:07pm

I scanned this thread so I might be saying what someone else already said, but the NEMHF is a business, not a DIY expression sort of thing. They are marketing to younger kids who spend their parents money. The price really isn't that outrageous considering they have the whos who of big business metal and hardcore altogether. The vendor price seems a little high to me, but like someone else said they have limited space and don't want people like me taking up space with my crap. Having vendors everyone knows is an added attraction.

Arsis would be cool to see to meet up with Mike as well as see Lacuna Coil, Exodus, Suffocation and several others but still a semi-crappy lineup.
