Get this one.My friends hooks up my new car stereo then we test it out and it works fine.Three hours later I head out and damn thing dont work. The CD wont go in the slot and whats even more fucked up is that when I turned the ignition off the stereo stayed on.I had to unhook the damn thing.Im baffled ?? ?? ?? Anyone think they know what the problem could be? Im Chris by the way.Im to lazy to make a profile right now.

wires, wires, everywhere. did you use a harness?

toggletoggle post by nate   at Nov 12,2005 6:41pm
More than likely your friend wired it improperly and it sounds like he hooked it up direct to your car battery. Have someone who knows what they're doing re-wire it for you.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 12,2005 6:41pm
I would say that your friend needs to go back to school and hooked it up wrongo.
go to circuit city.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 12,2005 6:43pm
I had my friend install the stereo to save some $$.The place near my house was gonna charge $70 to do it.Thats robbery!! I only paid $40 for the stereo.Having it installed for almost 2x as much dont make sense

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 12,2005 6:45pm
Could it be that there was only a hookup for the front speakers? Could I still hookup the rear ones? Idk Im confused over here

toggletoggle post by nate   at Nov 12,2005 6:46pm
The question is...

Do you want it done right?

It's like buying Stop and Shop mac and cheese or Kraft. One taste better than the other.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 12,2005 6:49pm
bad analogy since mac and cheese always works.
in this case, the friend's got no clue.
go to CC and get it installed properly.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 12,2005 6:49pm
What the fuck happened? It worked right after he installed it.How could it turn to shit in only a few hours? Anyways, time to watch the Bruins lose again LOL!!!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 12,2005 6:51pm
loose wires, miss placed wires, what do you want?
hook the power up to the rear speakers and see what happens.

toggletoggle post by nate   at Nov 12,2005 6:55pm
Ok Rev how bout this...

It's like wiping your ass with Charmin or wiping your ass with the TP they had in middle school.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 12,2005 6:59pm
eh... you still get the ass wiped there...
I'd say more like wiping your ass with Carmin or wiping your ass with some fecal covered spigehtti.

toggletoggle post by nate   at Nov 12,2005 7:00pm
You got me there...

toggletoggle post by nate   at Nov 12,2005 7:04pm
Ok it's like having your car stereo hooked by a friend or paying a little money and having done right at Circuit City! HAH!

toggletoggle post by wade at Nov 12,2005 7:16pm
the costs associated with an electrical meltdown would make you feel dumb.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 12,2005 7:55pm
How much does Circuit City charge? I know Best buy charges $65-$85

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 12,2005 10:28pm
Anyone? Anyone?

toggletoggle post by aliG at Nov 13,2005 12:45am
they charge about the same but be warned those kids that work in those shops sometimes do mickey mouse jobs

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 13,2005 12:48am
the harness is usually included in that price though.

i agree

i say this because my sister bought a whole system from them: headunit, 4 speakers and the thing was shot after two weeks. something shorted out and after they replaced the headunit the rear speakers went after a month. she was so pissed. i don't blame her. but she did get new speakers and get this a year later the headunit shorted again. no warranty.

i went to a small independent shop. bought an Alpine headunit and an iPod interface box and the stuff has been golden for the past year.

forget best scam/circuit crap - they probably don't know what they are doing or do not care and just wanna do it as fast as possible.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Nov 13,2005 12:59am
i agree with you because i know a couple of people who used to work there (both chains) and didn't know how to do shit and messed up all the time

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Nov 13,2005 2:32am
i used to install car audio, he installed the wiring wrong, theres a reason why a shop charges that amount, they have a warrenty. if its fucked, they will fix it. have someone that actually knows what they are doing look at it.

GRRR!!! Things are going from bad to worse. Now my dashboard reading is out,no interior lights and my electric locks dont work.Im waiting for the battery to die next. How the fuck can all this happen just by trying to hook up a car stereo? My other friend Jeff installed my last one with no problems at all.I should have had him do it instead.Im hoping that nothing else goes wrong and these problems can be resolved.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 13,2005 3:44pm
FOund out I had a blown fuse.Attempt number 2 to install the stereo was unsuccesful. This time the stereo made a clicking noise when I put the CD in.Time to return the generic Pyramid one and get a Pioneer at Circuit City.Im hoping I get a refund.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 13,2005 3:50pm
the clicking is cause the power isn't hooked up right.
I would have said you blew a fuse too, but I was out shooting family potraits.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 13,2005 3:52pm
Maybe so.I still want a better stereo though. The pyramid only had a hookup for the front speakers.Fucking cheesy

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Nov 13,2005 3:53pm
How can the power not be hooked up right? The thing was on.Im bitching to much.Im not posting in this thread nemore

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Nov 13,2005 5:13pm
if the cd player is clicking and wont take the cd, its the head unit itself.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 13,2005 5:21pm
there at 2 or 3 power lines on modern cdplayers.
constant
starter
pre amp (unusual)

my advice is wait for a sale at CC or BB. I spent $180 on nice sony a few years ago and installation was free. also, if you are replacing the front speakers, watch out for RF filters.
