After looking at the Cradle of Filth pictures, I started thinking about when I was a huge fan of them back in high school. But now, I can't stand them. I can't even listen to the their stuff I used to love. Anyone else have bands like this?

I'll start from the beginning... (I'm only 21)

Unfortunately, I grew up in a non-musical household. 1st and 2nd grade I remember listening to MC Hammer, Michael Jackson, and Tina Turner.
3rd grade I got my first Motley Crue Tape, and I stole my parents Extreme 'Pornograffitti' disc.

By 4th grade, my friends older brother down the st. got us into Nirvana, and Helmet. By 6th grade I was listening to Megadeth, Pantera, White Zombie and sepultura 'chaos ad' (still one of my favorites!) all the way through 7th grade and the local band Oxford Snow Kings since my friends bro was in the band. Also Sykofant another local really bad 'hardcore' band singer now is the singer of Backstabbers Inc. My friend Nate was also in As I bleed, and going to see them play with bands like Fault, Ookla The Mok, Driven (Veiled, Blood Has Been Shed), and Against All (then piecemeal, now hope conspiracy, bury your dead, band whores, ect).

Somewhere During 6th - 7th I was introduced to Manson's Portrait album which wasn't bad at the time. As soon as 'sweet dreams' came out I pretty much lost interest. I also was into limp buiscuit's first album before that hit MTV and quickly lost interest. So I can say I never listen to that shit anymore.

By 8th grade I was totally into the local hardcore/metal scene. I remeber seeing some of the funnest shows I've ever seen. Ten Yard Fight, One King Down, Diecast.

By 9th grade I was introduced to my first black metal bands....Night In Gales, Gorgoroth, Emperor, Hecate Enthroned, ect. During this time I also had the privelege of catching one of ASSUCK's last/only show in the area. Which got shutdown within 10 minutes. That shit was intense, they played on the floor in a circle facing eachother with everyone around them.

I started getting into more clean production metal like In Flames, Cradle Of filth and a bunch of other shit. I do still enjoy old in flames, not so much cradle though. Towards the end of high school I was mainly into death metal. Since then I've progressed more into death metal than any other style. At the same time I do listen to shit like porcupine tree, opeth, and quite a bit of power metal.

So I'd say there are few bands besides cradle that I don't still enjoy or listen to minus nirvana and megadeth. I'm proud of my musical progression considering I had to discover most of it myself and had no one to really show me much. I thank the internet for a lot once we got it in 1995. Tuefel's Tomb, Digital Metal, ect got me into Suffocation, Carcass, Jungle Rot, and tons more sick shit.

Night In Gales - ' Towards The Twilight', is IMO the best extreme melodic metal ever written to this day.

I used to like Slipknot.

toggletoggle post by metalmatt666 at Nov 7,2004 1:12pm
I used to be a stupid Nu-metal kid too I thought Slipknot was the heaviest shit ever hAHA

toggletoggle post by retzam at Nov 7,2004 4:29pm
I never was sucked into nu-metal. Well, besides for Slipknot. I had their first album (actually, I still do), and I would listen to it a lot, but I didn't buy into the rest of what was going on. I remember that first big Linkin Park hit, Closer To The Edge or something, and I heard that and thought it was pretty good, so I bought the CD of some kid for 5 bucks, listened to that song, then 10 seconds of every song before I wanted to shoot myself, so I sold it to someone else the next day for 3 bucks. I wonder where that disc is now??

my dad had me listening to black sabbath and guns and roses when i was a kid. he got me into soundgarden and shit too. then in 4th grade was my nirvana, green day, and helmet phase. after that i started getting into shit like offspring, nofx, TSOL, dead kennedys, etc. Then I bought this AFI album that had screaming vocals and checked out the bands in their thanks list: snapcase, sick of it all, earth crisis, h20. from there i went on to more metal and shit. but uhhh as shit i hate... i can only say that pop punk nofx kinda shit.

ha....let me see. my favorite band growing up? when I was really young? DEEP PURPLE...my dad introduced me to them in the early nineties. I was one bad ass motherfuckin child.

I found a Bal-Sagoth album that I seriously bought a few years ago.
I had to go into the bathroom to check if I actually had a cock.

Theres no bands i "used" to like. I still like everything I've once liked before. Maybe not to the level i liked it before. I started listening to music in the 3rd grade, I started listening to bands like Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, Dokken, Stryper, Motley Crue, and a ton of other stuff. I've always been into Metal/ Rock stuff. Still am.

my dad brought me up on a lot of shit i still like, like Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Soundgarden,Black Sabbath,Alice in Chains and shit. He also like Tool and Creed which i don't like anymore but i remember the first cd i ever had as a kid was Presidents of the United States(peaches!)haha i lost that a long time ago. then i got into Korn and shit but i remember when my friend brought me to a Killswitch Engage show it brought me into this whole other world of music not on the radio i wasnt aware of. so then i started listening to a lot of metal and hardcore. I got into a lot of death metal especially bands like Suffocation, Vital Remains, Malevolent Creation, Death, and Morbid Angel. but i listen to a lot of different types of music and i feel you have to in order to be a well rounded musician. but anyways now i dont listen to Korn and those kinda bands anymore because i just felt when i was listening to them i was listening to a watered down, less talented, crappy version of the real shit. thats what hit me the most about death metal and shit, how could anyone even compare their talent to nu metal type shit? if you listen to any of those kids that like Slipknot they are like"joey is the best drummer ever" i can think of like 20 drummers better than him. i kno im preachin to the choir here but that shit still baffles me.

Didn't the Four Horsemen do that "Rockin' is my Buisness" song?

Yeah.

Oh man......yeah I remember those guys.....saw them on the Headbangers Ball with Rikki Rachman...the good old days...

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Nov 8,2004 12:22pm
I'd still probably wear one of their shirts though. I remember seeing Hetfield wearing one and it was pretty cool. Some basic skulls and shit. Redneckish.

toggletoggle post by Lincoln at Nov 8,2004 12:29pm
Yeah I've seen him wearing that once I think too. I'll have that song stuck in my head all day now...not a bad tune if I remember correctly...not great, but not as bad as some shit I hear on the radio nowadays.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Nov 8,2004 1:10pm
Oh shit. I just found one on-line. I think I'm gonna buy it.

WE GOT HIGH POWERED TUNIES IN MY DADDIES CAR.
