It is amazing how some justify things. They'll befriend you, even buy ya a coffee but getting them to buy music is like pulling teeth out of a running gazelle.
You won't buy our (ALL indie bands) (99 cent) music, ($10) merch or come to shows (approx. $10) but you will buy a song for $1.04, $35 shirt and a $45-65 ticket.
When those bands are gone you can tell your kids you killed music because we (indie bands) won't be playing anymore. We ALL have bills, outside of music, that out weigh ANYTHING music related and OUR priorities WILL shift towards them leaving no one to play live shows, make new (talented/entertaining) music or encourage future musicians.
Doing it for the "love" of playing isn't good enough when it costs so much. Plus, to say we do 'it' for the money, as an "attack", just takes the steam out of us when, again, your willing to make someone else (major act) rich(er) and not give us independent bands a chance. Did you not know that all of those "other" bands were independent once?
