UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will likely have surgery for a bacterial infection in his intestinal track, according to a published report. In an exclusive interview with KSAX TV, a source close to the fighter said, "Brock has an intestinal problem that will require some sort of action. More likely than not that action will be surgery." The interview came after UFC President Dana White said Monday that Lesnar was recovering from the infection, but that is future in the sport was in doubt. "He's in stable condition and should be released soon," White said. Asked if Lesnar was in a Bismarck hospital, White said, "I think he is," but he did not want to say which hospital because he wanted to protect Lesnar's privacy. White said he is encouraging Lesnar to check into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for further treatment. He also said he did not know if the 32-year-old South Dakota native will fight again. "It depends on how serious this is," White said. Bismarck's St. Alexius hospital said Lesnar, a former WWE wrestling star, was not a patient there. The other hospital in the city, Medcenter One, would not confirm or deny that he was there. Lesnar - the No. 2 heavyweight in the USA TODAY/SB Nation consensus rankings behind Strikeforce's Fedor Emelianenko - last fought at UFC 100 in July, when he overwhelmed Frank Mir to unify UFC's heavyweight titles. UFC announced last month that Lesnar was withdrawing from a Nov. 21 title defense against Shane Carwin because of an unspecified illness. The promotion hoped to rescheduled Lesnar-Carwin for UFC 108 in January, but the plan fell through because Lesnar's ongoing health issues have kept him from training. White said Monday that Lesnar wanted to thank his fans for support. But he said it's tough to tell how 6-foot-3, 265-pound Lesnar is feeling. "He's never in good spirits and he's not in good spirits now," White said.
