As the Rev said, the term did exist, and bands were called 'metal-core' even in the 80s (in addition to 'crossover'). The term is now bastardized to refer to a certain set of bands, and it's now a 'dirty word'. Some of my old bands were called 'metalcore' and we formed before Overcast did.

So we're just saying, the term existed for quite some time now, and if you hear some Revisionist Metal Historian tell you otherwise, slug him/her twice, once for you and once for me.
