Bio
The first time we ever practiced with Rowan, he was rolling around on the floor as if he had just had a seizure. I’m pretty sure we didn’t even play the first song all the way through for him, even once, but somehow he knew where it was going – or maybe didn’t care where it was going – and just gave it his all. I remember looking at Alex and saying something along the lines of, “Works for me. How ‘bout you?” to which Alex gave his now customary reply, “Whatever” with the accompanying shrug.

That was back in January of 2004.

I think of all the places we’ve seen since then, of all the shows we’ve played and all the songs we’ve written, and it makes me feel damn positive of the future. The amount of space and time we’ve covered in such a short span is almost overwhelming if someone were to actually attempt digesting it all.

Prior to this band, I could honestly say I’d been to maybe five states; Rowan had seen probably ten; Alex, maybe four. I’m guessing at those specific numbers, but what I can say with certainty is that today I have seen the overwhelming majority of continental America, and I’ve had the honor of playing to well over 75% of its states.

I lived all the daily process of my life – such as brushing my teeth, eating, sleeping, and changing my clothes – in the back of a heavily over-weighted and utterly unstable Honda Accord during the first year we toured. The next year, we upgraded to a rickety van, which we still have. I would spend many claustrophobic nights trying to grab four hours of sleep while Alex belted down I-80 on our way to California. This past year Alex managed to install a window on the side of the van, which at least made for some interesting sights whilst I remain encapsulated under a sleeping bag on the floor.

Four self-released records, tens of thousands of miles, and several hundred shows later, our vision for this entity is now more in focus than ever. We’re aware of all this time spent together in front of road and audience, and how that time and those experiences have changed each of us so much in just a few short years. We comprehend now that we’ll never be that band that people will drink and be merry to, blaring as they dance late at night on the rooftops. And we also know no one would ever dress like us slobs.

What we have inevitably become are three unique characters with a shared, ridiculous sense of humor and a myriad of conversations about ontology. Our hearts beat the dark blood of constant progress and toil, which I now know none of us could trade for anything else the world should offer. As we spend our practices each week crafting our songs and making conjectures regarding philosophy, art, or maybe the ocean, I’m sure we’ll be falling ever closer towards the same goal and that same twisted sense of reality that drives us to do what we do as The Taste of Silver.

Faust Agin Eddie. October 5, 2006.
